Africa’s economic crisis is not caused by a lack of resources, but by illicit financial flows, debt dependency and unequal global rules.

At AfCoDD VI in Nairobi, I called for Africa to reclaim its economic sovereignty. The continent loses about US$90 billion annually through illicit financial flows while spending roughly US$89 billion servicing debt. Between 1970 and 2018, more than US$2 trillion left Africa through capital flight.

This is not a financing gap. It is a haemorrhage.

We must stop illicit financial flows, reclaim resource sovereignty, reform the global debt system and strengthen social protection.

The time for action is now. The bleeding must stop.

@AnganaKeith @KeithWanyande5 @Njeriwaridi After following Omtata's lawsuit on odious debt I've realized that corruption accounts for more than 50% of all the budget expenditure. Certainly not 0.1%. Having worked for county govt that figure should actually be 75% and not 0.1%
