@MackoBogdaniec Yeah that's kind of the big thing here. If they just straight up said "no" or "it has to be free", that would have changed things a lot.
It's stringing us along for so long, only being willing to sign at the finish line, and ghosting instead. It's limbo. These are the issues.
@BlehhMae@friyingpan@SpAM_CAN@Morgaen_Rei Specifically our case was in regards to Valve lawyers directly, since we were a commercial source game.
For mods on Steam, yeah I've seen them be treated awfully as well. Often down to misinformed or unhelpful support staff. Not what happened to PUNT though.
It's been long enough. Valve killed punt in 2023. Missed our agreed release window and then demanded more money. Ghosted when we tried to negotiate. I worked on PUNT for 10 years. It was basically done.
Valve isn't your friend, and can't be trusted past Steam. Don't use Source.
@evileboxyboo@SpAM_CAN@friyingpan@Morgaen_Rei The funny thing about quotations is, they only work if someone actually said that.
When you go to bat for a company blindly like...some people, valid issues are ignored and people caught in the middle suffer while people sing Valve's praises. You're only adding to that problem.
@Morgaen_Rei@friyingpan I'd rather have PUNT be shelved than have to answer to Garry. PUNT is a stand alone game that deserves a stand alone place on Steam. No wiggle room there.
Plus, they've changed a lot of Source 2 for S&B, and a smooth port is not the easy process it may seem.
@friyingpan@Morgaen_Rei We need a signed release agreement to launch, Caylee is correct. Why we missed our release date, is because Valve wouldn't give us that contract. Then they hit us with 50%.
We literally went as far as to draft up a version for them, based on G String's contract. They didn't sign
@evileboxyboo@boxandrocks@swagoncarson I wasn't gonna weigh in on this at all (partly because I don't use Twitter anymore) but logged in for this: No, Valve have genuinely been fucking around with a ton of Source projects for a while now. It isn't just PUNT.
@evileboxyboo@boxandrocks@swagoncarson They'll send contracts, the licensee will sign them, and Valve won't. Or they won't reply at all. Or they'll suddenly go dark. Or you'll get someone at Steam Support who thinks that there is no way to make a Portal 2 mod or something stupid like that (yes, seriously).

@RedactedRachell They're the most talented people I've had the pleasure to work with, and I'm sure they'll do great things.
This game is just cursed lol.
@RedactedRachell Everyone from the team is more than capable I'm sure. But as another reply said, relearning your entire toolset to port an existing game, is a lot.
What happened to PUNT weighed on all of us for years. It still does. Most people didn't have it in them to start over again.
@evileboxyboo@swagoncarson That "one person" worked for Valve...on the tf2 stuff lol.
I'm sorry to have questioned the image of your favorite corporation. I very rarely step into the public eye because of people like you. Really spreading the word. My rants against a billion dollar corp will do a lot.
@evileboxyboo@swagoncarson It's a no brainer to let the creator of Gmod do...whatever he wants. That game has made literal millions.
Have you seen Garry's Twitter? It's not his winning professionalism.
Roblox but Source is not a solution to "hey this game has been in dev in Source 1 for a decade" lol.
@evileboxyboo@swagoncarson I'd call it like one person actually doing all that work while Valve gets the positive PR. Nice person!
It's also very easy to forget the precarious position those mods were in for the longest time, a DMCA away from death. For free projects.
@evileboxyboo@swagoncarson I'm loving the grifting with 299 followers on a tweet I made without fanfare.
The difference between them, and us, is money. That's it. And even those devs had a hell of a time getting to having that sdk. For free projects.
