The switch stick is your best friend on defense, but overusing it is how you give up instant one-play scores 🛑🔥
Cover 4 used to feel like the safest shell for switch sticking. The problem is that the moment you pull down to guard a post, you completely abandon the deep streak for an easy touchdown.
The safest switch-stick structure
• Base out of a Cover 3 defense
• Put an Inside Third on your backside player
• Put an Inside Quarter on your strong-side player
• Shade underneath by pressing Triangle/Y + Down on the Right Stick
Why this works so well
• Your zones form a true safety net instead of isolated responsibilities like in Cover 4
• When you switch to an interior defender and pull them down, the backside Inside Third can still rotate over the top to handle the streak
• This gives you freedom to play aggressively without getting punished for one mistake

Return routes are good… but here’s how to make them UNGUARDABLE in Madden 26 🧠⚡
Most people run returns, but any basic hook zone can usually guard them.
These two setups make it so ZERO zones in the game can consistently cover them.
On the short side:
1️⃣ Put a return on an outside or slot WR
2️⃣ Add a flat or HB swing route
The flat forces the hook defender to widen, so the return snaps open behind him.
On the wide side:
1️⃣ Put a return on the outside WR
2️⃣ Add a flat to the slot WR
The flat stretches the hook defender horizontally, leaving the return with no help inside.
Flats already do not guard returns.
This setup specifically removes the hook zone’s ability to play them.
