@farmerjim13 Pretty sure you are right track on it being the idler-had one on an 8.3 Cummins that pivot of idler wore and allowed idler pulley to cock causing belt to move and tear off rear edge

@hering_ryan I had a 2004 Western Star 4900SA on a 48’ Wilson 3 hopper underneath Tri Drive ready (very rigid unit) and we snapped the sliding fifth wheel rail pulling out of field at harvest loaded. Fixed the problem by installing a Kompensator fifth wheel(7* tilt to each side). 34 MT legal

Congratulations to our youngest son Kelvin, who successfully defended his PhD in Civil Engineering on Friday. Proud that our two sons and two daughter-in-laws continue to pursue further education and skill development as they follow their career journeys.

@oldmangord Lots of room to buildup heavily and leave built up, so wouldn’t be afraid to do it at all as long as there isn’t anything underneath that could pull out of line due to heat. Would need to find what else is loose that caused crack to start in first place.

Today marks the 30 th anniversary of my dad’s passing in a farm accident on our former farm. As I reflect back on that incredibly sad day, I encourage everyone to be extra safe as we begin another busy, stressful and hopefully successful farming season!

Based on all the brazing on the block of Grampa’s 1925 McCormick Deering 1530 that I’m restoring, I’m thinking the conversation between Grampa and his operator went like this: “Good and bad news Matt-good news that awful knocking has stopped- bad news, I walked in from the field”

@landon707 Other than pulling the axles and driveline U-joint, it is pretty simple to drain oil and pull carrier out of diff to get a good look if you have a heavy floor jack. Had a similar situation in ‘08 on a Star and reman carrier at Winacott was $2200

I thought I was rich when the plump, high priced RSW in this picture started flowing out of the intake ports of the head of Grampa’s antique tractor I’m restoring and….then I found a crack in the head. Going to take more than the RSW to fix this problem :-)

That quickly escalated from a 2 minute “Attaboy” (stop a miniscule leak) into a 3.5 hour”Aw shit” (twisted off bolt in semi radiator) Was good for social distancing- everyone scattered when I started swearing. Princess shouldn’t sell guys like me 3’ long 1/2” breaking bars!
