@pedrotrossi1 Sera que o constraint real para ganhos de educação nao é simplesmente o QI médio baixo? E que nesse caso não tem muito o que fazer para melhorar a situacao?
@theoluminati Probably? I can see hiring or firing sprees having large immediate effects, but 580 officers is not that much relative to the total NYPD contigent. 10% might not be that much variability once we take a look at a time series of crime in NY, it's pretty hard to disentangle effects
@fizziksBoris That being said, im a biochemist transitioning to pure chemistry, and my research career has so far been limited to a very periferic country (brazil). But I do think some of what you seem to be experiencing also happens here
@fizziksBoris I think that part of this is also a remarkable lack of professionalism in academia when compared to industry, which allows such cultures to develop. The research gets done in spite of the bullying and politics, but the way the system is set up doesn't facilitate reform
@fizziksBoris I'll ever reach that level, but i think being realistic about what contributions one can make is important.
See here for some discussion on that: https://t.co/jrd4rfAriq
@fizziksBoris Have you read about the Ortega vs Newton hypothesis on the inportance of superstar researchers? There's some evidence that most scientific advancement really does rely on a relative small number of high impact researchers across many fields. It's disheartening as I doubt...
@AnechoicMedia_ Do you think it's actually possible to maintain the economy of detail with modern graphics? I feel like maybe we'd feel something missing
@MT_6226 It has become a phenomenon in Brazil, south korean man chatting kpop fangirls online and getting flights to random places to meet up with usually quite good looking women
@loquitur_ponte It's understandable, even if misguided. Realizing here i wasn’t nearly as smart as i though i was remains a painful experience. I do think we should give some thought to the pains of being mediocre even as we strive to optimize results
