After a two-week hiatus, I am returning to the White House briefing room tomorrow as news outlets begin to notice the retaliation against me following new @whitehouse rules targeting me. What if I had not become a good journalist rejecting false narratives that the racists, the demons and the devils are on one side and the angels and the gods are on the other side?

What if I had become a robber, attacking people with a knife or a gun and collecting their money? What if I had become a foreign agent, receiving millions of dollars from a foreign government and pretending to be the best behaved person in Washington while secretly working against the United States? What if I had abandoned the continent where I was born, got a job and focused only on myself, instead of trying to strengthen ties between the US and Africa?

What if I had become the journalist who just connives with those in power to oppress the people they are supposed to serve? What if money had become more important to me than leaving where I live better than I found it? What if I had joined a gang or was burning down shops and blaming it all on my circumstances at birth? I did not become any of that. I chose journalism and I have done it fearlessly across continents and countries, and now they are coming after me, changing the rules at the White House to kick me out. But I am undeterred. I will continue to do my job until they finally get rid of me. May God help us. May The First Amendment prevail. May freedom not die! Amen.
