Now online: led by first author @Kapil_Upadhya, with Liz Speliotes, Vince Chen, & others – we found a common coding variant in the gene encoding the nuclear envelope protein SUN1 associated with hepatic steatosis & MASLD-related traits in multiple cohorts

When expressed in cells, this variant increased SUN1’s proteasomal degradation, blunted insulin signaling, and increased lipid droplet accumulation, supporting a potentially causal role in MASLD. Funded by @NIDDKgov & @liverUSA; thanks also to @UMIntMed and @MichiganLiver
