Another Indian seafarer killed.
Wiper Suraj Yadav of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, is dead after MV Cape Dao was attacked today while sailing toward India.
28 crew on board, 20 of them Indian.
Two torpedoes: • Port side C-deck (accommodation) • Port side hull (engine room)
Assurances mean nothing. Innocent civilian seafarers are being slaughtered in and around Hormuz.
FSUI demands immediate accountability, safe passage, and justice for Suraj Yadav and every Indian seafarer still at risk.

I met @dgshipping_IN & they assured flwg for Nautical CoC exams in 2026:
Seafarers can appear every month, exam papers after checking will be shared with examinees, UK CoC holders can appear for higher CoC in India, Ratings 36m seatime can do 2nd Mate FG exams without NCV route.
An interactive meeting was held with Capt. Samarth Sinha, focusing on key initiatives being undertaken by DGS for Crew Safety and welfare.
The discussion highlighted measures taken by DGS to improve safety frameworks, and promote robust training and competency standards. Emphasis was also placed on transparent crewing practices and continuous skill development to support seafarers and align India’s maritime sector.
Such engagements reinforce collaboration and contribute to building a safer, resilient, and future-ready maritime ecosystem.

Expanding Employment Opportunities for Indian Seafarers through CoC Reforms
The Directorate General of Shipping held a focused discussion with Capt. Sanjay Prashar, CEO – VR Maritime Services Pvt. Ltd., on expanding employment opportunities for Indian seafarers through reforms in the Certificate of Competency (CoC) examination ecosystem.
India is charting a decisive course to strengthen the global presence of Indian seafarers by reforming and streamlining the CoC examination system.
Currently, Indian seafarers constitute ~12% of the global maritime workforce. With targeted improvements in the CoC examination system and career progression pathways, India aims to increase this share to 20%, translating into approximately 2.2 lakh additional seafaring jobs over the next 1,800 days—without compromising on quality, safety, or competency standards.
Discussions highlighted the need to remove procedural bottlenecks, improve exam frequency, timelines, and transparency, and align Indian certification processes with international best practices, while retaining the robustness of Indian maritime training.
Focus areas included faster CoC issuance, fair and predictable examination scheduling, modernised syllabi aligned with contemporary shipboard technologies, and stronger feedback and grievance-redressal mechanisms for seafarers.
By enabling faster career progression for officers, improving transition pathways for ratings, and enhancing the efficiency of the examination and assessment framework, India can unlock large-scale employment opportunities—particularly on cargo vessels, where global demand for skilled officers continues to grow.
This strategic reform agenda reinforces India’s commitment to building a future-ready maritime workforce, enhancing employability, and positioning Indian seafarers as a preferred global talent pool.
