I get extremely bored of this faux moral intellectually whataboutism especially as it pertains to this topic.

If the premise of the argument is that you refuse to speak out against a genocide because the group is racist/oppressive to you, then Black people would rarely if ever speak out against oppression facing any other group than ourselves. You can speak out against innocent civilians being killed and also call out the anti-Blackness and racism in those communities. This argument also falls apart when you use Afro-Palestinians as an example because logically, shouldn’t you then support their safety even if it’s only limited to that group?

The term “Arab/Islamic Slave trade” is widely disputed by scholars for two major reasons. The Quran does not tie slavery to race or skin colour and rather it’s focused on religious and wartime status. It also erases the non Muslim participants such as Jewish merchants, Christian intermediaries and African traders. Also not all Arabs are Muslims… it would be more factual to say there is anti-Blackness in Arab society rather than Arab Muslims.

And while later Islamic writings and legal practice adopted racial dimensions, they had no Quranic basis. There is no verse endorsing enslaving people because they are black or on the basis of race at all. The concept of race-based chattel slavery of the kind seen in the transatlantic trade is a much later, largely European and American development. We do not say “Christian slave trade” for the transatlantic trade even though Christianity was the dominant religion of the enslavers and was used to justify it.

You don’t need to spread misinformation to justify not supporting something.

In a certain perverse, and intentional, way Israel's actions are even directed against the West. By showing that it openly disregards all rules, that the West can do nothing to stop it & that it is an accomplice, it helps to destroy West's last vestiges of credibility.
