@EricSal_7 Wemby will not, and should not, take a discount. TD didn't start doing this until his mid-30s. Sure, Jalen Brunson did it, but it was a super unique situation and he's not a 22 year old top-3 MVP candidate either.
@RealTomPetrini I get it but Spurs shouldn't sacrifice (I'm using that term loosely of course) the next two years worrying about the third knowing that trades and the expansion draft are always going to be options to offload a player's salary in the 2028 off-season.
@ClanTheSpursFan Fair but doesn't really have to do with why the Spurs signed Barnes to this deal. It has more to do with it being an expiring contact that could be used in a trade later, not impacting off-season plans bc of bird rights and not needing to use an exception, & locker room presence.
@DPGSpurs Is the point to allow wemby to play some at the 4? Up to this point, Wemby playing alongside another big hasn't worked. Maybe it hasn't been the right fit, but any lineup that pushes wemby away from the paint is not ideal. Carr + one of those two bigs would have made more sense.
@DPGSpurs I think it was more about the process than the players drafted. It's fair to question drafting two centers with questionable shooting. If Reed is a Quaintance insurance policy, then why draft Quaintance. If Reed is just a luxury, then it might not be the best use of resources.
