The ventilator performs the functions of the brain that can no longer do its job. The donor must be discovered in enough time to get his/her body on a ventilator, hence why they call it a cadaver donor. Without brain function the body dies.

@Amara372559 People keep saying there’s no such thing as brain dead. The BODY (inclusive of organs) of a brain dead/damaged person is kept “alive” on a ventilator in order for the organs to be viable for transplant. I received a kidney from a guy who committed suicide!
