Carney is essentially trying to implement Yookay style online speech controls. With his stolen majority government, there's no way to stop him, and so no reason to expect that he won't succeed.

Canadian nationalists therefore need to start being smart. Use coded language. Avoid overt 'hate speech'. Don't advocate violence. Use positive messaging, love of country rather than hatred of other. Make their job as difficult as possible.

This is nothing the right hasn't seen before. The bad old days of Twitter censorship are not so far behind us. Britain and Europe already have very similar laws. That hasn't stopped their nationalist communities. Censorship doesn't change the underlying social conditions. At worst it prevents people from being too direct. Furthermore, by forcing dissidents to be clever, it exerts a selective pressure that raises the intellectual level of dissidents, while making the censors themselves increasingly ridiculous.

Censors themselves are usually very stupid people. Coded language tends to go right over their tiny heads. They don't handle satire well. It's also very easy to mock a regime like this by parroting its own vocabulary. Elbows up, everyone. Diversity is our greatest strength.

State capacity is another factor. How many censors do they actually have? How competent are they? (diversity is our greatest strength!) How many people can they actually enforce these laws on? Every time someone gets dragged into court the state is burning a significant quantity of time, energy, and attention. The cost-benefit of tasking bureaucrats, police officers, lawyers, and judges to punish random shitposts is math that doesn't math very well. The entire strategy relies on making an example of a few to cow the many. If the many aren't cowed, because for instance despite the censorship they can see with their own eyes what's actually happening to their country on the street, all censorship does is piss people off and further undermine the legitimacy of a regime that would not be resorting to censorship in the first place if its legitimacy was beyond reproach.

This is bad. I'm not looking forward to it. But panic won't help. Keep your wits about you, stay calm, be smart.

Yeah, so this is basically the conclusion of liberalism and the belief that the natural state of man is a rational, meritocratic, free thinking individual with no inherited obligations to family, community, faith, or nation.

The belief that every one of the billions of people on Earth exists to have their own personal expression and pursuit of happiness fulfilled, and that everyone else has to be restrained the moment they interfere with what ultimately amounts to individual consumer choices.

From there comes the assumption that the entire human species is virtually interchangeable in value and capacity, provided everyone is given the same opportunities. Differences in ability, inheritance, culture, history, religion, kinship, and civilizational background are treated as either superficial or illegitimate. A person with an IQ of 70 and severe autism, or someone born into a recent tribal society in sub Saharan Africa, is ultimately reduced to the same abstract individual once everything inherited is stripped away.

What you’re left with is humanity flattened into a sexless, faceless, genderless, monocultural, monolingual grey paste. Ironically, in the name of celebrating diversity, the actual diversity of the world is gradually destroyed.

This is Francis Fukuyama’s world. The End of History and the Last Man. The perfect liberal, social democratic, egalitarian capitalist order, populated by detached individuals pursuing private preferences.

Notwithstanding, of course, that if you actually tried to run a civilization on this stuff, you’d get exactly what you’d expect: collapsing social trust, contempt for institutions, increasingly arbitrary law enforcement, two tier policing, harsher authoritarianism to keep otherwise functional communities in line, ethnic identitarianism, overloaded social services, economic decline, political violence, war, and eventually the possibility of genocide. Very enlightened stuff.

Under the hood is a nihilistic anti civilization suicide cult for people who believe limits is oppression. Family, sex, biology, religion, nation, duty, inheritance, all of it becomes an intolerable obstacle to personal self creation. We’re just made of stardust on a rock, floating in space, emotions are just chemicals, consciousness is just neurons, nothing matters, and reality itself is negotiable if it makes somebody unhappy. It’s a secularized heresy of humanist Christian Gnosticism.
