Today marks a major step forward.

Three California Baptist University student-athletes have filed a federal Title IX lawsuit, represented by @PacificLegal , challenging the elimination of CBU’s men’s wrestling, swimming and diving, and golf programs.

The lawsuit argues these cuts were made to meet proportionality targets, forcing athletes to transfer or give up their sport in a state where Division I wrestling opportunities are already scarce.

“For too long, Title IX has been used as the reason universities drop programs,” said Nolan Kistler “Instead of expanding opportunities, schools have too often used it as a shield to cut them.”

This fight is bigger than CBU. If left unchallenged, these cuts will continue.

CBU students are speaking up.

Today, students submitted a letter to the Board of Trustees in support of a three-year continuance for Wrestling and Swim & Dive.

This isn’t just about sports.
It’s about opportunity, community, and honoring the commitments made to student-athletes.

These programs develop leaders, strengthen campus life, and reflect the mission CBU was built on.

We’re asking for a seat at the table and a path forward.

We have formally requested a three year continuance of CBU wrestling.

This program has produced national champions, All Americans, NCAA qualifiers, and elite academic performance.

But its greatest impact is spiritual. Through this team, young men have encountered Christ, been baptized, and grown in faith within a Christ centered community.

It is the only Division I wrestling program in Southern California and one of the few at a Christian university.

With more than 1.2 million pledged in under two months, the path forward is real.
