Here's a thought ... Instead of going to the coffee shop or "doing something for yourself", how about spending that 30 minutes with the child and giving them breakfast?
Is that so controversial?? 🤦♂️
Ryle: ‘Let us beware of giving way to over anxiety about the course of events around us, as if we knew better than the King of kings what time relief should come. "Cease, Philip, to try to govern the world," was a frequent saying of Luther… It was a saying full of wisdom.’
@TonyUddin @UKLabour@Keir_Starmer My predecessor was an hon naval chaplain. Apparently they hold the rank of the person they're speaking to. I think that's quite a nice analogy for how a pastor should see themselves - not speaking down or up to anyone
I should add that this is one reason why pastors are so important. Random teachers online can be like restaurants. They can serve highly appetizing teachings, often because they take no responsibility for your wider diet. But a pastor must.
@zugzwanged@EdwardLHamilton Thereby showing that Jesus was both son of Judah and son (by adoption) of Joseph, thus reuniting the divided people of God according to Ezekiel's prophecy, which Ephesians 2 tells us is ultimately about Jews and Gentiles...
This is a really interesting and really honest thread about @nfergus finding God. It’s well worth a read - and afterwards it’s worth reflecting on why we’re seeing those pretty steady stream of intelligent atheists finding faith at the moment. Is there something brewing…?
Our most recent guest on Bookmarks was Richard Bray, minister of St Anne's Limehouse in East London.
Ken Brownell talked with him about his favourite book and current reading.
Superb time with a faithful local church pastor devoted to teaching the bible.

@marcushoneysett Apparently Dick Lucas would say, "Expect criticism; examine it; endure it." Good plural eldership should help us examine criticism. We do need to hear valid criticisms without being crushed by them
@ChrisHowles The language of fulfilment is all over Luke-Acts (see Luke 1:1-4, 'the things that have been fulfilled among us"). Therefore perhaps Paul & Barnabas were not so much "doing it all so there was nothing left to be done" but "following the pattern /agenda of the OT"?
