Iâve lived in LA for 12 years. The voting system is set up for convenience. I think Iâve voted in an actual booth maybe 1 time. Other than that Iâve filled out a mail-in ballot and just dropped it off at a drop box or polling place. And some reason, people on here think I shouldnât be able to do this. That I should have to wait in line, take up a huge chunk of my day. Voting should be easy.
đšBREAKING: Israel has closed all crossings into Gaza and halted the entry of humanitarian aid following Iranâs retaliatory strikes on Israel, cutting off supplies to roughly 2 million Palestinians in the territory.
Israel has imposed similar blanket closures during previous periods of regional escalation, including immediately after the outbreak of war in late February, collectively punishing Gazaâs civilian population.
The entire IDF military strategy is doing the "time out, time out, time out, TIME IN" trick in a fight and getting pissed off when someone starts hitting them back
Acting as if there is no future and the world is definitely ending is an extremely good way to avoid feeling accountable for things but unfortunately you guys are still going to be around in your 70's too, and the world will be way worse by then because you preemptively gave up.
Being a billionaire must be insane. You can buy new teeth, new skin. All your chairs cost 20,000 dollars and weigh 2,000 pounds. Your life is just a series of your own preferences. In terms of cognitive impairment it's probably like being kicked in the head by a horse every day
Beowulf but in Florida: The unarmed hero Benny Wolf confronts the demonic Bucc-del inside the great drinking hall of the Waffle Wouse, in the lands of the mighty Burger King of Jacksonville.
This makes perfect sense if you donât know anything about anything.
Fucking half of the USâ interventions over the past 40 years were explicitly conducted to prevent Muslims from killing other Muslims. We invaded Somalia âwith UN supportâ to quash a famine that was being instigated by warlords (and when we had to get our hands dirty trying to hunt down some of those warlords, we again, both had UN support and the military support of both Pakistan and Malaysia). We chucked Saddam out of Kuwait (again, with UN support) with a coalition that was half composed of Western states and half composed of Muslim states. When Saddam didnât get the message the first time, and tried to eradicate the Kurds of northern Iraq and the Marsh Arabs of southern Iraq, we (with UN support) threw up a no-fly zone over northern and southern Iraq.
Never mind the fact that the Conga line of war criminals at the ICC looks like Muslim -> Balkan dude (usually Christian, sometimes Muslim) -> Muslim -> Balkan dude -> Muslim -> African warlord (mostly Christian, sometimes Muslim) -> Muslim. The current guy on trial is a Libyan war criminal named Khaled El Hishri.
The other three dudes whoâve been on the docket are âRodrigo Duterteâ (the Filipino Christian president who notably waged a mass murder campaign against drug users and dealers); Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, a âMuslimâ leader of the Janjaweed who co-led the Darfur genocide; and Al-Hassan Ag Mahmoud, a guy who lead an Al-Qaeda affiliate in northern Mali (he beat most of his charges by the way, because the International Criminal Court is in fact nigh perfectly fair â he still has to pay restitution for a bunch of torture he ordered though).
And to state the obvious, the General Assembly is infinitely more forgiving when youâre repressing âyour own citizensâ â thatâs the rule, because âeveryoneâ does that. North Korea isnât occupying South Korean territory right now, and theyâre not actively assassinating North Koreans defectors whoâve moved to the South or elsewhere. The Houthisâ âwonâ their election in Sanaa (technically making them the actual government of Yemen), the civil war happened because they won their election and âthenâ marched on Sanaa.
The Syrian and Sudanese âcivil warsâ (again, the UN is overwhelmingly forgiving when governments brutalize their own citizens, thatâs why no one complained when the Russians brutalized Chechnya), also consistently drew international opprobrium. When Russia invaded Ukraine (without pretext, unlike their invasion of Georgia, which they were able to frame as an intervention on the part of South Ossetians) that drew consistent UN disapproval. With China, itâs the same canard, theyâre repressing their own citizens re the Uyghurs, thus, criticism has been muted.
Including Iran just demonstrates that heâs a deeply unserious person â Iran both hasnât had a civil war, and hasnât conducted a formal military intervention without the request of one of the governments in the countries in which they operate. And no, supporting proxies doesnât count as rising to the level warranting international opprobrium â if it did, the US government would cease functioning because of the number of officials whoâd be rotating in and out of ICC hearings.
Israel has killed more Palestinian children in the last 3 years than Palestinians have killed Israelis of any kind over the last 80 years.
And itâs the Palestinians who are bloodthirsty and violent. Sure.
I dunno this a terrible argument, itâs best to just say that âwe hope our candidates can be betterâ Democrats stood by Bill Clinton despite his many scandals in Arkansas and he had an affair with an intern. Unless the argument is you can do bad things if you went to Yale Law?
This is a binturong, itâs not a bear or a cat, it naturally smells like buttered popcorn, and itâs one of the most underrated animals on the planet
