Almost 1 in 3 Aussie kids aged 12 to 17 are already gambling. And the industry is flooding their screens with ads to hook them for life. It’s time to protect kids and take gambling ads off our screens. ✍️ Sign the petition now. https://t.co/Z5DE26Kg4P
Have finally given up on Twitter/X - so sad to see a great thing become terrible. Moved to BlueSky - hopefully find some joy in social media again. Wasn’t quick enough to get “brendam” so I’m “@brmoon.bsky.social” instead.
4/ The authors conclude that the results "indicate that Musk’s posts received a marked increase in visibility (view counts), amplification (retweet counts), and user interaction (favourite counts) that outpaced the general engagement trends observed across the platform.
1/ X's algorithm was changed in mid-July 2024 to systematically boost Republican-leaning accounts and Elon Musk's own account following his endorsement of Donald Trump, according to a newly released computational study of engagement from the Queensland University of Technology.⬇️
Remember when I got fired by the ABC 11 months ago for sharing a Human Rights Watch post about Israel using starvation used as a tool of war? This is the sort of gut-wrenching and hollow ‘I told you so’ moment that brings profound sadness and frustration. I wish I wasn’t right.
This is an important article, a very important alarm bell.
Sth Aust is introducing Trojan horse legislation (that the Albanese govt are copying) that will strangle electoral donations to the minor parties and independents . . . under the guise of "electoral reform".
It isn't 👇🏽
I'd ask if the Senate of Australia has any standards, but I am guessing that it's just for some people. Others go unchallenged, whether it's Senator Wong misrepresenting bad actors in Europe, or Senator Babet casting slurs while using his title and position.
That's not to say there aren't genuine concerns about children accessing social media too young. Many experts say we have to do something about it using a number of levers.
But Albanese has used the populist sledge-hammer approach, baited by the groups making the most noise
It sounds odd, but this does distill my thoughts too
It appears that organisations with right wing political leanings like Murdoch's empire, took a very populist front on this - screaming "Save The Kids" & other populist rhetoric - and Albanese has followed the noise

Disturbing reaction by Simon Birmingham & the LNP as they refuse to back the anti-racism motion, Birmo says he has no time for “petty” motions, it’s disgusting words, I thought he actually stood against racism at some point. #Senate
I am on NDIS support.
I gave them my GP's explanation of why I was physically disabled, they recognise a mental health diagnosis by a Psychiatrist, but not this. They told me it had to be "re-diagnosed", wouldn't say it directly, but implied it would have to be done by a specialist.
My GP wrote me a referral to a back specialist and a knee specialist.
It took 3 months to get an appointment with the knee specialist, and no back specialist would see me because I do not have private health insurance.
Giving one month to provide supporting evidence is a measure designed to reject legitimate claims to save money, if you ask me.
@SquigglyRick @billshortenmp The person I am supporting to get into the NDIS was medically retired from the (Commonwealth) public service due to disability & is on a (Commonwealth) Disability Pension. The (Commonwealth) NDIS does not accept either of those Commonwealth decisions as evidence of a disability.
@SquigglyRick @billshortenmp Now we wait for arbitration by the ART where I have no doubt we will win. It is costing the NDIS thousands. It has cost the person much more. By the time it’s over, it will be nearly 2 years without necessary supports plus the cost of 5 medical reports all saying the same thing
@SquigglyRick I have been supporting someone trying to access the NDIS for over a year. NDIS organised an independent assessment by an OT chosen by NDIS. The OT reported that the person is clearly eligible & needs services. NDIS now disputes their own independent assessment @billshortenmp
Could someone please explain to me how this is not a rinse-repeat of #Robodebt in concept. People with a disability are being sent a letter demanding unspecified information. A letter with life-altering consequences & decisions later overturned.
