The kindest analysis is that these guys were Useful Idiots. Also very possible they knew they were being paid to spread Russian propaganda. Either way, a total disgrace. They should give the money back.

Some of my friends on the center-left and left might view this as heavy-handed enforcement, but as someone who holds an anti-carceral philosophy and wants to see people kept out of the justice system and brutal prisons, I think it’s good for police to deter crime. And riders get peaceful, calm rides while the transit system earns fare revenue. Good! We live in a society.

New medical study examining Achilles tears in the NBA said there was some correlation to increased workload in the 10 and 15 games before a player tore their Achilles. It found that players who got hurt averaged more minutes in the 10 and 15 game periods before the injuries than their season average.

The study said: "No significant associations were identified between (Achilles tear rupture) occurrence and age, player position, role, early sport specialization, or measures of schedule congestion."

- AI likes long sentences with less punctuation; “and” is its most overused word
- relatedly, lists of three things, which drives up use of "and" as well
- polysyllabic adjectives: “significant”, “increasingly”
- scientific jargon ("rate-limiting," “parameter”)
- nominalizations (making nouns from verbs: eg, “expansion” from “expand”)
- ofc, everyone's favorite: "it's not X, it's Y"

-Higher ed is threatened and under attack, esp. from the right.
-AAUP formally becoming a factional Dem constituency that wants to "fight" makes the problem worse, not better. Most students go to public unis!

@mattyglesias @BrendanNyhan I'm sure states spend more, but as a share it has fallen a lot. State shares of state school budgets were ~70% in the late 70's. At Michigan, it's now ~7%. SUNY it's ~20, Wisconsin it's ~13, etc. Schools also do/spend a lot more, and serve way more (kinds of) students
