@roseroseret@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman I definitely agree here. Marking is not very profitable if done in depth, so it feels like scan as quickly as you can, get a rough estimate, and hope your team leader doesn't pick you up on too many.
@roseroseret@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman I am a fan of big ideas rather than specific dates, etc. when it comes to literature. But I think we're asking a lot of 16 year olds in timed conditioning across multiple subjects and some clarity would help everyone.
@CarolAtherton8@roseroseret@BarbaraBleiman This seems to be a clear instruction this summer. 'For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.' Hemingway would not have gotten a good mark!
@roseroseret@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman AQA will never commit to anything for us as it leaves them open to accusations of contradiction. I would like something as clear as 'Students who write less then 400 words leave themselves at risk of not having written enough to reach the upper levels of the mark scheme'.
@roseroseret@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman The hours we have spent marking and moderating, doing AQA training...and I've never felt more insecure in my understanding of what students need to do to achieve a particular grade.
@roseroseret@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman That is the thing that really gets to me. Our students are so lucky to have the teachers they do, but it's hard to keep hopeful in a system that is so broken. Our GCSE results are down, our A Level are up - what has changed? Nothing.
@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman AO6 has been a particular frustration. We have kids scoring 7/16 on Paper 1 and 16/16 on Paper 2. One would have thought that technical accuracy was a fairly consistent skill...y'know, within tolerance...
@CarolAtherton8@BarbaraBleiman This year more that ever I've been left beaten down by poor marking. AQA seem to be holding tough on grade changes and failing to recognise that being 'within tolerance' across every question changes students' grades. Q5 on both Language papers have been particularly baffling.
@GCSE_Macbeth I am thinking of bringing them to a poetry reading. If I ever get on top of things. They are also doing a year-long reading project on Frankenstein and texts they might compare for coursework.
@le0nardpoetry Honestly, my favourite book, and I can't even contemplate anyone not appreciating its poetry. What I wouldn't give for a book club just devoted to reading it over and over.
