I believe that in the near future we'll begin to see a convergence of social media platforms. By this I mean that the concepts behind platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram could be merged into a single social media site that encompassed elements of all three #DCIM353c
Biju Mathew’s commentary on the taxi/Uber organizing in New York City was surprising. I had assumed that taxi drivers and Uber drivers never got along, but his description of the lack of flexibility in both industries made me understand how much the two have in common #DCIM353c
#DCIM353c Reynalda’s description of workers being required to wear necklaces that tracked their working time as well as their conversations was very startling. This is absolutely an invasion of privacy and an expression of mistrust by management toward their employees.
@evelinaadamczyk This is definitely important to remember for the exam. Social media and other technologies make social movements that much more powerful in today's society, because now people can spread information beyond physical and social borders in order to raise awareness #Dcim353c
@KappShelby Vertical surveillance is definitely an important topic for the exam and especially relevant to our society. Horizontal surveillance should also be remembered in conjunction with vertical, seeing as they both refer to forms of accessing someone's info via social media #DCIM353c
@Itsamefelix That's a good point about privacy and obscurity being separate concepts, and what's also important is how the concept of privacy itself has changed because of social media and and technology. #DCIM353c
Something to remember for the exam is the extend of integration of digital technology into our everyday lives. Smartphones can be considered a part of ourselves, being the primary means through which we communicate with and access information. #DCIM353c
#DCIM353c#TXC19 My academic brand is that I'm a Comm major and intramural volleyball player. Eventually I hope to use my course experience to work in the brand management/advertising field in NYC. I definitely try to maintain a balance of fun and work withe everything in life.
#DCIM353c#TXC19 My personal brand is that I'm a team player with a penchant for presentation. I enjoy life more when I can share it with my friends, and it never hurts for us to look good while we're at it. My interests are mainly travel, style/fashion, and event planning.
#DCIM353c#TXC19 One of the best resources to take advantage of in order to thrive at Rutgers is our libraries. The libraries are the perfect place to get work done or study. The Rutgers libraries are also great places to go to when you want to find research material in person.
@JPDigital20 #DCIM353c Midnight Breakfast is absolutely a sigh of relief in the middle of a busy semester. Even if the lines are obscenely long, nothing beats breakfast food late at night with your friends, I'll never forget my first one during my freshman year
@jason_petrides#DCIM353c Fair point...I can imagine that this is a less enjoyable change of pace for a transfer to the NB campus; I've been dealing with the buses for 4 years and it hasn't gotten much easier to get onto a loaded bus at any time of day, let alone first thing in the morning...
@evelinaadamczyk#DCIM353c Good point! I'm just starting to realize that I'm much more productive in the morning than I am at night, but I still need that extra boost hen I get up. Anything caffeinated is definitely the best way to get through a load of assignments.
#DCIM353c#TXC19 This is a meme of one of the bus stops on campus at Rutgers. Part of the student culture here is joking about inconveniences from the bus system at Rutgers, especially the occasional poorly timed bus which leaves the students scrambling for a spot once it stops
@evelinaadamczyk#DCIM353c Nice of you to point this out. The public sphere and opinion are both crucial to understand in the digital age, considering the ability that online forums grant us to converse with people of similar or differing opinions on certain matters
@SarahYagoubi#DCIM353c Great point; with context collapse we begin to understand the dichotomy of public and personal information in the digital era, and how we can manage both sides of our content. Our different sides appeal to different audiences, and merging them can have serious backlash
@emack_30#DCIM353c The bell curve is definitely a crucial part of understanding how innovations penetrate society, and understanding where certain types of people lie within the curve depending on their lifestyle or industry and its relation to that particular innovation
#DCIM353c One of Lepore's greatest critiques of Christensen's Disruptive Innovation Theory is that the theory is focused too strongly on the idea that all innovations are rapid and disruptive; it does not consider the possibility of gradual, stable adaptation to innovations
#DCIM353c My project will cover the development of mobile gaming and the societal effects that may take place as a result. I feel it's important to consider gaming's effects on productivity and attention in both educational and professional environments given its accessibility
@SarahYagoubi This is a really good point, online activism definitely allows people who may feel like they don't have a voice to be heard. It also allows for more exposure and coverage of current events, creating even more activists as they become educated on these matters. #DCIM353c
