@metoffice The NSWWS framework is broken if it allows red warnings to be issued in the middle of the night, so close to an event that has been so comprehensively handled by NWP output. A dangerous and regrettable timeline.

@liamdutton Good in principle, often fails in practice. Some unnamed weather events worse than those that are. There's Irish/UK/Europe naming conflicts. The media fails to grasp the detail. Last year, the Forestry Commission closed forests in the south because of a named Scottish storm, etc

@Vadoseflame @supercell_1996 @metoffice I don't subscribe to the notion that, just because ants have been seen at the same time as the anaprop, then it must be the cause. That's a flawed logic and ignores all of the evidence of the past fortnight.

@Vadoseflame @supercell_1996 @metoffice So there were ants yesterday - and today - and both days there was lots of anaprop. What caused the anaprop daily over the fortnight leading up to today, because it was in the same place, same time, same intensity.

@metoffice I very much doubt these echoes are caused by ants. Firstly, they were rife at 8am this morning, long before ants would take flight. Secondly, and most importantly, anaprop has been a consistent problem on the radar composite across parts of England for 2 weeks now.

@UKMeteorNetwork I witnessed the 07:10 meteor near Aylesbury. Brilliant green trail, splitting into a "fan" of smaller tails as it broke up. Very bright indeed.
