Jaylen Brown says he used the NBA Players Association instead of hiring an agent for the NBA Draft because they're paid to help players
“When I entered the draft, I didn't have an agent. I'm probably the highest picked selected ever that didn't enter with an agent. When I was evaluating, I went through the whole process and sat with a bunch of people, and what they was offering I ain't really need. It was kind of already slotted, so I leaned on the union a lot more”
“A lot of the agents came and was like, ‘Yeah, we'll move you to L.A. We'll get you a trainer, put some money in your pocket,’ and I was like, ‘For what? Do I gotta give the money back?’ They was like, ‘Nah, but standard agent fee is 4%.’ I'm starting to do the math, and a house, car, and all that, whatever he was offering, is a lot less than what 4% would have been”
“Long story short, the math wasn't mathing for me. I ended up being the third pick. I think because I came in like that, a lot of people, I think it was the agents, they tried to slander my name a little bit, put it in the media that he's too this, he's too that. Ended up backfiring. It all worked out in the end”
“With the union, we pay dues. All the players in the NBA pay dues. We all pay like $10,000 out of our salary that goes to hiring lawyers, hiring staff, CEO, everything that you need to lead a company that works for us. So all of that is our resources that we all pay for, that we agree to. Once I learned that, I just started using it”
“I'm talking about you can get private investigations done. They give referrals for financial advisors. All type of stuff. Foundation wise, health insurance, whatever you need. They have a liaison that's paid to make sure that you get it done. So I put it on their desk like, ‘I need you to get this done.’ And they do because that's their job”
@cwebbonline That interview is fairly fluffy and doesn’t enable me to conclude much of anything about how their strategies did better with gentrified voters relative to working class voters. I assume you are alluding to the fact that Moraff is not working class ? Or something else ?
Trump, sitting next to Zelenskyy: "In one day, we could knock down every single bridge in Iran. There's not a thing they can do about it ... if we have to, we'll take them out. They have desalinization plants. We'll take them out if we have to ... maybe we'll take over Kharg island."
@conorsen Since this nested thread seems to be mostly about that vague place that we call “the heartland”, I’ll add the obvious fact that university towns (and their scientific research and medical centers) are the modern factory towns. Trump 2.0 is damaging these heartland gems. Sad.
@RonBrownstein@SenWarren@SenSanders Good points. Dems still require a new Senate leader though. Schumer doesn’t have “the juice” for the fight to stop reactionary Trumpism, which will take 10-20 years.
@darrenrovell Good one! Occam’s razor: It’s very very difficult to be the best in every worldwide sport. Also a reminder: Italy men’s soccer hasn’t been in the World Cup since 2014. US soccer fans: Just enjoy the next 13 days and relax.
Damn, Iran did not waste a second, they had this diss track ready to go, with the exact final score, after trump's cheating ways jinxed and screwed our US Men's Soccer Team.
He's turned the whole world against us.
The song is 🔥, tho.
@franklinleonard Surprised the turf didn’t buckle into a mound like a Road Runner cartoon? Collective PTSD from all the parents whose kids were goalies on that play. 😂
The discussion about @elonmusk's comments on humanitarian aid has mostly focused on our values, which seems right. But note that USAID served our interests as well as our values, by protecting us from diseases like the Ebola outbreak now ravaging Congo.
Vance recognizes that the Watergate break-in is like a cub scout prank compared to the massive, all-encompassing corruption and criminality of the Trump presidency.
It'd be nice to have a Speaker who'd say: "And let them, we have nothing to hide, and they'll look like fools for doing it."
But what he's saying here is: They're gonna uncover a lot of stuff, and you don't want that.
Trump's Oval Office event concluded with an extended riff about "the reflecting pond" in which he accused "a member or big payer to ActBlue" of "getting in there with a knife and cutting it and ripping the floor out."
Sounds legit!
Here's his whole rant, which needs to be seen unfiltered to be believed:
@EJK_Econ@besttrousers You are wrong. 100% wrong. The ignorance and/or bad faith gaslighting of you Musk sycophants and apologists is just astounding. Abject cruelty appears to be your through-line.
You and your ignorant sycophants blew up an entire agency, resulting in the deaths of at least a million innocents. Don't use this corruption, dealt with by appropriate officials, as your excuse for the inexcusable.
