@jasonc_nc@mattyglesias The NFPA is a publishing company masquerading as a regulatory body that’s the agent of the most cohesive, well-organized public employee union in the United States. Maybe we should have some other voices in the conversation.
@AndrewDamitio Agreed. The larger problem is that civics education by and large tends to completely ignore local government. We also don’t do a very good job educating students on state government. It’s a huge problem.
@EggerDC The right does this in a variety of ways with people on the left. There’s so little cross-factional interaction it’s remarkably easy to assume that sincerely held beliefs are actually tactical political arguments advanced only in the interest of winning.
@EggerDC I think the problem for most people on the left is they’ve never actually had a real conversation with a conservative evangelical and they think all Christians are the same. So they mistake sincere beliefs for political posturing.
@StatisticUrban My son is going to school in Richardson, TX (because scholarships). I haven’t spent a ton of time there, but I was surprised at how diverse of a community it was. Very different than the PNW, but he’s enjoying it. Most likely won’t stay after he graduates.
@Timodc People want us to believe that this comically inept administration is also capable of running multiple false flag attacks with no leaks. Seems improbable. Which of the clowns is supposedly the brains behind this operation in the White House??
@humantransit I think another part of the problem is inefficient resource allocation. The suburbs spend too much on police relative to their actual need. PDX has a disproportionate share of the problem, probably also driven by policing in the suburbs. But they can’t get the $$ to solve it.
@ChandlerRebel@RuthlessPodcast You know, I never would have imagined 20 years ago that @BillKristol and I would have so much in common. The pragmatist in me finds that very relatable. Love Bill.
@Phuocerman Great piece! I agree with everything you said, but one point bears emphasis - the new ownership is simply not living up to the standard they promised. Nothing about this offseason says “epicenter of women’s sports.” It makes me sad.
@johnloeber@Noahpinion Totally agree on #7 - now imagine you’re a 70-something senior with a mild cognitive dysfunction and then interacting with these systems becomes impossible.
@NizNellie3 As someone familiar with woke United Methodist churches, there’s absolutely zero chance they’re generating enough net income to incur $200-250k in income taxes if they were taxable. That’s just laughably false.
@RyanTClarke But is it worse than “we didn’t suspend him because he didn’t do the murder, he just delivered the gun to the teammate that did the murder.”
@morninggloria I’ve used it for some very technical questions (extremely boring public finance/accounting stuff) and it’s been great. Accurate and using the most widely cited sources. But other questions it just completely misses - and the misses are unpredictable.
