UPDATE ON KENYA’S CANDIDATURE FOR THE POSITION OF AUC CHAIRPERSON
Today, H.E. Dr. @MusaliaMudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for @ForeignOfficeKE and Former Prime Minister and Kenya's candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, The Rt. @RailaOdinga, held a joint press conference to update the nation on the bid’s progress.
H.E. Dr. Mudavadi confirmed that all preparations for the campaign are complete following the country's formal submission of requisite documentation to AUC Secretariat by the high-level delegation led by Dr. @SingoeiAKorir, PS Foreign Affairs that included the strategy team of Hon. Odinga.
PCS Mudavadi highlighted Kenya's Candidate vision for the AUC hinged on African integration; infrastructure development; economic transformation; intra-African trade, financial independence; agricultural innovation; climate action; peace and security; youth empowerment and gender equality.
He expressed confidence in Hon. Odinga's vast experience, strong Pan-Africanist credentials and readiness to participate in MjadalaAfrika, an African Leadership televised debate allowing candidates to outline their visions and transformation plans for the continent in line with AU Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
The PCS applauded President H.E. Dr. @WilliamsRuto's full support and endorsement of Raila’s candidature, terming it an act of statesmanship. He apprised that President Ruto will officially launch the AUC Chairperson candidature on Tuesday, 27 August, 2024.
On his part, Hon. Odinga reaffirmed his commitment to achieving the vision of a united, peaceful, and prosperous Africa.
Quoting the late Kwame Nkrumah, “Africa must unite or perish,” Hon. Raila pledged to tackle long-standing continental challenges including in healthcare, education, wealth creation, integration, interconnectivity, employment, peace and security.
PCS Mudavadi concluded by calling for Kenyans full support to the candidature which he declared as a “National Mission” and for Hon. Odinga, whom he said represents “Kenya’s voice, values and aspirations on the continent.”
The elections are set for 25 February, 2025
