Mwalimu Peter Orero is so self-effacing that neither Larry nor his online followers knew that he was a member of Parliament, from that takataka video, until much later.

Even now, they still don't know that the individual is the legendary Upper Hill School principal who made the school a sports giant and took the whole nation by storm, for his talent-spotting ability. Many Kenyan kids owe him their lives.

He is also a genuinely humble and decent man, a very rare trait in Parliament, where sharks and hyenas abound. In fact, even as MP, Orero has been unable to lose his simplicity and humility; the kind that picks up a story with old acquaintances on the sides of the road or in matumbo joints.

Would I judge him merely on driving on the wrong side of the road? No. Because that is what everyone does. From William Ruto to Oscar Sudi, from Salasya to Kilimani wash wash agents with customised number plates, from junior police officers to small time magistrates...everyone who can drive onto the pavement and then the wrong side of the road.

Orero has not killed anyone and has not stolen from anyone.

But we know why it is fashionable to trend him and make him the subject of memes once they discovered who he was.
