Working towards making Machine Learning and NLP more useful for clinicians. DVM + PhD in Natural Language Processing and Veterinary Epidemiology @unimelb
@paultoo Given that Google developed the transformer architecture (ie the engine that drives GPT-4) I would still bet on them unless OpenAI proves it can create something novel beyond ensembles, reconfigurations and training data augmentation in its research.
Antimicrobial stewardship in vet clinics - fascinating use of NLP in an #LHS James Gilkerson @brianwithaneye@karinv@ncats_nih_gov The pet pictures were the best part of the presentation 🙂
There’s a lot of excitement from the industry, myself included, on what’s possible with large language models such as @OpenAI’s GPT-3. This paper is a great demonstration out of on where they fall short and how to evaluate: https://t.co/fC4k79XUhx
Congratulations to Dr Dr Brian Hur @brianwithaneye on the successful examination of his PhD thesis!
“Development of Natural Language Processing Tools to Understand Veterinary Antimicrobial Usage Patterns” #NLProc#ClinicalNLP@eltimster@JRGilkerson @LauraHardefeldt
I am super excited to have been selected as a finalist for a Women in #AI awards 2022 in the AI in Innovation category.
I applied for this award on the basis of my work in chemical patent mining in collaboration with Elsevier, in the context of the #ChEMU shared tasks.
Another great study from the @FVASunimelb and @NCAS_Aus research group that demonstrate the effectiveness of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs in reducing usage to combat Antimicrobial Resistance using our NLP models to label the data.

Anyone know of scalability frameworks relevant for scaling data- and technology-related innovation? I am working on two projects involving scalability and thus far in my search the scalability literature doesn’t address the excellent points in this article.
Are you a pet owner in Australia whose dog or cat has been to the vet for an injury, illness or skin condition in recent years? Then you can be part of important research about pet medications by completing this 15-minute survey. Thanks!!
