..RBA monetary policy is “somewhat less restrictive” but the cash rate is still above the avg of the RBAs estimates of neutral (~ 2.8% in this chart). With trimmed mean infl expected to be around target & policy still tight further cuts are likely. We expect the next cut in Aug.
The RBA cut 0.25% to 3.85% citing underlying inflation being down and now forecast to remain around the mid point of target & uncertainty around tariffs. It’s still noting the tight labour mkt & poor productivity and remains cautious. But it looks open to more rate cuts…

Aust Sept qtr GDP just +0.3%qoq/0.8%yoy…lowest since early 90s recession (ex covid) with flat private demand and public demand demand contributing +0.6%pts. RBA and mkt was +0.5%qoq/1.1%yoy. Our forecast was +0.4%qoq.
