These plank figures seem to be unique to Cyprus and mostly come from burial contexts though some are associated with domestic sites. They were made during the Early and Middle Bronze Age, ca. 2000 - 1600 BCE.

Archaeologists name the different parts of ceramics after the different parts of the body. This terminology is helpful when trying to identify the shape of vessel that has been found in fragments. Pieces that are recognizable as part of a vessel are known as diagnostic fragments.

The geometric patterns on this vessel from the Iron Age are characteristic of the Geometric Period (1050-750). The Iron Age is also marked by the adoption of more advanced #pottery techniques. This jug was wheel-thrown, as evidenced by the concentric circles on it’s base.
