@LBrunner28 I love how mindful you are being about ELL students and their parents. So often we think of technology as a great way to communicate quickly and effectively with parents (in many cases it is!), but your thoughtfulness to preferred language and home life is wonderful! #ed109
@ashleydawn2916 I like your connection with science- specifically how you mention that technology may impact (negatively) students inquiry based learning. It is the perfect example as to why teachers need to understand the how/when with tech use in classrooms. #ed109
"Another example is the development of new reproductive technologies. In the past if a handicapped child was born, the ethical question was: how can you deal with it in a good way?"....Scary to think that technology could bring us to ethical issues like this. #ed109
Considering how technology has changed our behavior is interesting. His example of waiting for a letter for days vs, waiting for a text in a minute is spot on. My behavior/expectations have clearly changed with this example. #ed109
Hard/soft usage- "Sometimes these are clearly visible in the form of risks of explosion, poisoning or pollution (so-called 'hard impacts'), but the consequences are often subtle. These may include changes in behavior, needs and expectations people have of each other." #ed109
@ashleydawn2916 So true! Its almost creepy how tailed our searches become, and what information presents itself to us dependent on our recent searches. #ed109
"...because of our reliance on machines, we will start to develop the universal principles of technology, such as urgency, a need for constant updates, and a loss of privacy." #ed109 https://t.co/5brjX4s2o3
@LBrunner28 This article really resonated with me. The quotes you pointed out are things that I struggle with as well. I feel lost without my phone and can hardly remember the days in which I didn't have one. And yet I feel so guilty for being on it- and not being in the moment. #ed109
@jennorton515 "Because of the lack of technological acumen on the part of many parents, they lack the authority, at least in the eyes of their children, to regulate its use." This struck me. When I grew up, my technology use was monitored, but I can see how it is more challenging now.
"“We are losing empathy, compassion, truth-telling, fairness, and responsibility and replacing them with machine values. What happens to those universal principles that have stopped wars and elevated human consciousness above more primitive times in history?”...seems dramatic?
"There is no easy short-term fix for the future, Bugeja says, which is why we need to temper our use. He says the long-term solution is through education." I agree with this as well, we need to have classes for students about how to find accurate sources. #ed109
@jerridkruse@WattersLesli HA! So true, I'm sure my daughter will agree someday. Until then, I'll soak up her 16 month old self that isn't able to argue yet.
@Emily43598042 I totally do! Especially when I am doing something like lifting, or washing dishes etc. It registers my arm movements as steps. I seriously love my Fitbit, but if I'm going to upgrade (and pay more)....I just wish apple watches weren't so expensive!
I love my Fitbit, it keeps me motivated to run by comparing my step count to my friends and family via challenges. However, I hate that it isn't water proof and that it doesn't track my spin or swim workouts. Time to invest in an Apple Watch 🤣#NOT#ed109
@RaddatzTalia I love my Fitbit, but your Apple Watch sounds like it might be what I need to combat the downfalls I have with Fitbit. Interesting point about it being distracting, can you turn off notifications for text? #NOT#ed109
