Next week I'm convening a historic event at the Vatican as part of @PontAcadLife. Join me and Prime Minister of Barbados @miaamormottley in-person to discuss how an economics of #TheCommonGood can tackle our biggest collective challenges. With a special message written for the event from Pope Francis @Pontifex, we'll explore transforming theory into urgent action for climate, health & water crises.

Goodbye beautiful and inspiring Barbados! What a great week working on civil service training with @miaamormottley team and fantastic @IIPP_UCL crew. Back in London weather is surprisingly …grey.
SAVE THE DATE. "Common Good: Theory and Practice"
A conversation between @miaamormottley (Prime Minister of Barbados) and @MazzucatoM (Professor, Economics of Innovation and Public Value); moderator @SCastelfranco - @Stampa_Estera
Wonderful that @MTBracken is in Barbados with me, @daeaves & the rest of the @IIPP_UCL team to deliver our Applied Learning programme to the government. The UK Government Digital Service (GDS) stopped the dependence on big IT, built internal public sector capabilities & redesigned public services digitally - & won a design reward along the way.

Honored to have spoken today at a Social Partnership meeting convened by @miaamormottley (tripartite group of government, business & labour). Particularly interesting to have so many trade unions in the room thinking about how to implement Barbados’ 6 missions.

In Barbados this week working with @miaamormottley’s team, rethinking public sector capabilities & mission-based partnerships with justice and equity at the centre. @IIPP_UCL
+1 on this especially on the learning front - the UK policy ecosystem’s stubborn refusal to think about learning (and ironically, learn from) successes in other places really puzzles me. It’s like trying to work on a car engine with only one tool, when we know many others exist
Interesting packaging of policy options from @nesta_uk (but would like to see more of a portfolio logic and emphasis on learning) https://t.co/rYZzqjKrHX
Could not be more excited, or prouder, to be here in Barbados to help support the applied learning work as the Govt here takes hugely ambitious and incisive strides on how to rethink and reimagine what's possible in public policy. Can't wait for the programme to begin!
Hey @EGudynas, I know it’s not common to admit but I agree with the essence of your critique (not all) and will use your useful points for a revision as this is just a discussion paper. Joao (Brazilian PhD student co-author) is visiting a group of researchers working in Amazon in Brazil next month. Would be great to talk to you too (perhaps also in an open dialog). 🙏🏼
On my way to Cali, Colombia for #COP16Colombia, just did a pre-recorded interview for tonight's @Channel4News on why we need long-termism in both government and business to foster growth (green growth!) in the UK. We are lowest in G7 for public investment and 28th in OECD for private investment. We need change of fiscal rules (to enable long-termism in the public sector) and a tax system that rewards long-termism in the business sector. Watch tonight!
We launch version 2 of the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Map tomorrow! https://t.co/4bW1dudMLl

Our @watercommongood final report was published on Thursday (@NOIweala@jrockstrom@Tharman_S). Lots of coverage in the media so far. Here's a thread 🧵 with some of the top reviews.

🚀As governments strive to build Digital Public Infrastructure (DPIs) to deliver public services digitally and at scale, the DPI Map is emerging as a game-changing toolkit to enable more effective and responsible design.

I hosted a workshop today with @edweck_rj, Brazil’s Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, with leaders from 30 Brazilian ministries and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), on the role of SOEs in supporting the Government of Brazil’s economic and ecological transformation agenda. We discussed the importance of clear direction from the centre of government, capacity building, ensuring that SOE governance focuses on strategic alignment with policy goals and not only on compliance, and empowering SOEs with tools - like “mission-oriented” public procurement - to shape markets in alignment with these goals.
Stay tuned for our working paper sharing insights on this topic.

As Europe is about to allocate billions into AI industrial policy, @AINowInstitute's new report questions how priorities will be decided, premises underlying this vision and why it will reinforce incumbent #BigTech power
Glad to have contributed to it!

This morning, at 11:30 CET, I'll be speaking at the 11th @OECD Forum on Green Finance & Investment about the urgent need to value water as a global common good. We must reshape our financial systems to address the interconnected water, climate, and biodiversity crises. The costs of inaction far outweigh the costs of action.

Global South countries are - by some measures - adopting clean energy tech faster than Global North countries https://t.co/tiEs0FBNLh One-fifth of the Global South, from Brazil to Namibia, has already overtaken the Global North in share of solar & wind electricity generation
