with all of the real (bad) news, feels weird to share some p*rsonal (good) news, but hey ho: after almost 5 years, it's my last week at @Food52! sharing some of my fav things we built over the years—so proud of the team i had the privilege of helming, and will miss them immensely
@loratliff so sorry to hear this, Laura; just sent you a DM about an open role we have at @forbesvetted in case you might be interested in talking more. good luck and take care!
here’s a photo of them together near the start of their marriage. I never knew them at that time, and he passed almost 30 years ago. but it’s how I choose to remember both of them for the rest of my days. i love you forever, ammama and thathappa. thank you for everything ❤️
10 days ago, my family said goodbye to our beloved matriarch, vijayam balakrishna sharma. her incredible and dynamic life extended from august 26, 1934 to July 19, 2022. (1/)
in Hindu tradition, for the first 9 days after a person’s death, their spirit wanders around this realm, finishing their final goodbyes. on this, the 10th day, we prepared a nourishing meal to offer to her and sent her to the next place in her journey (6/)
sending her off was deeply emotional and unthinkably difficult. we are grieving the loss of our paragon of excellence and our unrelenting glue. but our one consolation is that she’s been reunited with her soulmate, our grandfather, balakrishna sharma (7/)
and on top of all that, she was a fierce, exacting, and fully compassionate woman beyond all measure, who never gave anything less than 100% in anything she did. she rekindled lost family connections and forged new ones in the most unlikely places across this island (4/)
she was a pioneer and example in every sense, speaking four languages fluently, creating extremely faithful vegetarian versions of traditional Singaporean, Malay, and Peranakan cooking, creating a novel space for burgeoning students of Carnatic music to learn and thrive (4/)
Here’s how Dems can + must do more than wait for an election.
Let’s start w/ why:
- 7 of the 9 justices were appointed by a party that hasn’t won a popular vote more than once in 30 years
- 1 of those seats was stolen
- Several lied to Congress to secure their appointment…
my heart hurts. any former employees or affected contribs—please DM me. we built this team over the last few years with such good intentions and motivated by the idea of making the massive change media still needs to see. these people deserve better.
anyway, bye to food media (in its strictest sense) for now. but looking forward to following along and trying recipes i didn't either approve or test or edit or do SEO research for lol

but no matter what, the team took whatever came at them in stride, acting creatively, scrappily, positively in the face of increasingly weirder curveballs and headwinds. i really cannot stress enough how incredible they are + how lucky i have been to work with each of them
