Recess , unstructured play, & classes like music, Arts, physical education, etc. are not only the reason some students enjoy coming to school, but may be only time students engage in divergent learning ( innovative/ creative learning) which is key for innovation in society.

We have always had SEL in schools. It was called recess, unstructured play, and classes like Music, Art, Physical Education, etc. but they have been systemically taken away or reduced because some have decided testing is more important than learning.
