With a vote of 896 to 7 the UM House Officers Association ratified a 4-year deal with @umichmedicine
This agreement demonstrates both parties’ commitment to recruiting and supporting top-tier resident & fellow physicians who provide world-class care to the Michigan community.
We have reached a Tentative Agreement!

Competitive salary is vital to recruit top-tier talent to UM. Michigan Medicine will struggle to provide great patient care to the community without the best resident physicians available

In Opinion
"The rhetoric that a job is a passion or a 'labor of love' obfuscates the reality that a job is an economic contract," the author Simone Stolzoff writes in a guest essay. "The assumption that it isn’t sets up the conditions for exploitation." https://t.co/EBRHFq96hO
Don’t let vocational awe get in the way. Love what you do AND get fair compensation for the labor we do to help patients. If you’re a member or ally of @hoaumich , take 1 min to write a letter in support of residents. Use this: https://t.co/X6hj7rNXVX
Hey @NikkiHaley — I’m a pediatrician right here in South Carolina who has worked with countless suicidal kids, and zero have ever cited trans kids in sports… but plenty mentioned anti-LGBTQ rhetoric akin to the words coming out your mouth.
This is a long-term investment. Residents trained in Michigan will continue to practice in the state after residency. Competitive salaries are needed to recruit the best and brightest medical graduates from all over the country.
How to attract and keep medical talent in Michigan to provide great care for the state? U of M says it wants to stay competitive but has offered resident salaries at the 41st percentile relative to peer institutions. The @hoaumich proposal serves Michigan better. @UMichPrezOno

We are trying to fill the library on our hospital psychiatry units so that people have good books to read during their stay! Please consider donating today while donations are matched for Mental Health Awareness Month.
I love my residency and spent hours and hours after work to inform applicants about our program and why it would be a good fit for them. I came here in 2021 thinking the administration supported the vision the HOA had for resident wellness. Time for the university to prove it.
Hundreds of resident physicians showed up this morning to demonstrate we can and will act as one. We've been transparent with the administration on what we need to get this deal done... so let's get it done! @umichmedicine#HOATheRealMichiganDifference#MedTwitter#UnionStrong
I’m also incredibly proud, as usual, of @JonathanCunha74 for his achievements and constant efforts as a mentor for those coming up behind him. Thankful to have had his support as we went through med school together and excited for the years to come! #UCSDSOMGrad
In med school I fed my passions- singing, writing, ethics- and those pursuits helped me grow into a leadership role I never conceived for myself as the quietest kid in the room. Feels awfully good to have these contributions officially recognized #UCSDSOMGrad
