@broadburnt@TheBeez1588 They HAVE been trying to increase their chances of drafting high. They've been sellers at every deadline. They've loaded up on draft picks. The team overperformed, as most Torts-coached teams do. They obviously value the culture they are building than they do shamelessly tanking.
@jms6079 Even if Michkov and Martone hit their top 10% outcomes, that’s 1-3 years away. Larkin will be 31-33.
Even if everything goes right, Larkin will barely be here to make an impact during the prime we’d be paying for.
The Flyers trade for Larkin.
We’re still a tier below the Habs, Hurricanes, Lightning, and Sabres.
So what exactly is that accomplishing, other than a few extra regular season wins + something for fans to slobber over?
@ChrisDiFran3 He’d be the Flyers new big acquisition. That makes him a shiny new toy.
I don’t think you understand development/prime/regression aging curves.
@porterbump9420 No, trade for someone when they’ve built a core where a 30 year old can be the final piece. Or trade for a younger player when one becomes available, such as with Zegras.
@ChrisDiFran3@porterbump9420 No, I have the foresight to acknowledge time doesn’t stop moving at age 30.
We have a few seasons until his mid 30s. Do you honestly believe the Flyers are ready to spend those seasons legitimately contending with Larkin?
@DanKnightly A top 6 center who turns 30 in July.
He has 5 years until his mid 30s. And he’s not even our final missing piece. We’d spend more time “becoming a contender” under Larkin than actually contending.
@porterbump9420 Larkin doesn’t move the needle in any meaningful way. He’s turns a kinda crappy team into a maybe good team.
That’s worthless. It’s nothing. Why would we go all-in to become a good team for a few years?
