People getting close to being released from prison must overcome their method of surviving in captivity in order to have success in freedom. That is a failure of the system that constantly dehumanizes you & then expects you to be able to function in the free world.
WCCF marked the successful completion of its first @BakerBti's Heavy Equipment Operator course, with 12 AIC receiving certificates. The participants gained certifications in Heavy Equipment Operation, Traffic Control/Flagging, Forklift Operation, and CPR/First Aid/AED. #jobskills
Nancy Hart has fought to #endthedeathpenalty in Nevada for over 20 years. We’ve seen her spearhead reform but it's past time for abolition of a dangerously broken system. Read her eloquent words on the necessity and urgency of abolition below:

Another day another Executive Branch report showing NDOC mismanagement. The real question is why keep commissioning reports and audits when it's clear the Board of Prison Comissioners has no interest in doing anything about them? https://t.co/2GLpaUBrdK
“What we’re talking about is a public health crisis in institutions where the disease is going to spread & it’s going to harm the community at large. This report confirms everything we have predicted.”

"Everything we’ve said has lined up with every report by what they consider a neutral third party. So when is somebody going to do something about it?”

Question for @NevadaOpenGov, NRS 343A.100 keeps all working papers from executive branch audits confidential, execpt in very limited cirumstances. Making it dificult to dive deeper into audits. While I understand posibly redacting some information is there a good reason for this?
The experiences of women incarcerated in Nevada are too often overlooked. We correspond with many of them and today, on #InternationalWomensDay, we extend our support, strength and solidarity to all of them ♥️
The Ninth Circuit US Court of Appeals affirmed a NV district court’s granting of a new trial to Mark Rogers, blasting the state for providing him with inexperienced counsel who lacked the knowledge and resources to competently defend a capital trial.

"@NevadaDOC miscalsified $43K in weapons purcheses as inmate driven cots ... this means that funding approved for inmate driven costs such as housing, food, and clothing were used to purches weapons, violating the intended purpose of the budget" https://t.co/jXB42iTEay
This is big. This is important. Court fees in Nevada bury our most vulnerable in debt and criminalize poverty. We all want safe neighborhoods, we won't get there by funding local government on the backs of our poorest neighborhoods.
Just in case you haven't had a chance to read the full report by the Governor's Finance Office Division of Internal Audits, this is how much profit @NevadaDOC has been making from families each month. Zero regulation (until now). We are so grateful this has been brought to light.
We stand in solidarity of the CO’s at @NevadaDOC and their families when it comes to the working hours. It is putting the well-being of the staff and the incarcerated at risk. When will @GovSisolak step in to assist?
The staffing shortages within @NevadaDOC are putting the physical and mental wellbeing of staff and our incarcerated members at risk. This member wrote to us because he's so concerned about the hours staff are working at Warm Springs Correctional Center. It is not safe or fair.
We get sent hundreds of letters every month but we read every single one. They shape our work and our strategic priorities as an organization. Everything we do is in response to the needs of our incarcerated members (made up of 10% of @NevadaDOC's inmate population).
I used to be at the prison that houses death row inmates. I was the editor of the prison newspaper, so I got to speak with them often. In 2 yrs time, 4 death row inmates got their cases overturned, 2 were released. I don't understand governors continuing the death penalty
People who owe court debt are routinely forced to make an impossible choice: whether to buy food ... or pay fines & fees.
