Great changes come when individual actions are multiplied.
If you could hold up one sign for the whole world to see, what would it say? π€

I will be utilising these strategies for innovation throughout my unit plan for teaching #SDG14. #PBL encourages collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, student autonomy and curiosity (Kokotsaki, Menzies & Wiggins, 2016).
βWe can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking.β
How do you encourage #innovation in your spaces?
πProject Based Learning (#PBL)
πTeach concepts, not facts
πMake skills as important as knowledge
πForm teams, not groups

What a fantastic way integrate learning about #SDG14 with sensory play. Use objects found around the classroom to construct an ocean sensory tray to support student learning and foster engagement. Thank you for sharing Amy!
#UoNTeach#educ4750#SDG14
This Australian book is a great resource in classrooms as it starts a discussion about our impact on the planet and what we can do to help care for our ecosystems. This example is just one way you could extend the learning into sensory play for an engaging and interactive lesson.
CoastSnap is a science project that allows citizens to take images at specific locations of our beaches. Explore the CoastSnap app with your students to show them the impact of coastal erosion! #UoNTeach#educ4750#SDG14
For your socials and for science. π πΈ
CoastSnap makes contributing to coastal research as easy as putting your phone in the cradle, snapping a photo and uploading it to their app.
They use repeat photos at the same location to monitor changing coastlines. π

Microplastics are small plastic pieces that are less than 5 millimetres in length. These small pieces of plastic can cause serious harm towards our marine life (Andrady, 2011). Use this TED talk to inform student learning: https://t.co/PghiClAf6W

It is important that educators consider 21st century general capabilities when planning for teaching. An integrated curriculum encourages a natural curiosity for learning, communication and collaboration (Drake & Reid, 2018).
#educ4750#SDG14
This is a wonderful example of different activities that can be utilised in the classroom to support #SDG14.
Hands-on activities increase engagement, critical thinking skills, and develop analytic skills (Satterthwait, 2010).

I will be designing and creating a visual scientific experiment within my #SDG14 unit plan. This type of pollution/oil experiment is not only great for helping children visualise the effects of oils spill, but also how water and oil don't mix well and why oil floats on water!
This is a fantastic way to integrate technology into a 21st century classroom whilst teaching students about #lifebelowwater. The utilisation of this coding tool has endless opportunities in the classroom to support students effective use of ICT ππ± #educ4750#UoNTeach
This is a fantastic ICT tool to educate children on why clean water is essential for our planet. In this Scratch Project students will use coding to create games, tell stories, and even to solve real world environmental problems.

The Return and Earn scheme was introduced by the NSW Government to encourage people to recycle their containers. In 2020, it saved 4 billion pieces of rubbish. Use this initiative to encourage your students to see the value of collaboration to support #SDG14. #educ4750#UoNTeach

This is a fantastic website by the Young Ocean Explorers. There are a number of valuable resources related to our ocean. Why not use this website to teach students about plastic pollution, whilst integrating technology into a 21st century classroom?

This is fantastic!
In the classroom, there are several ways to teach our students about #SDG14. It is clear that authentic, engaging and collaborative learning related to #lifebelowwater has taken place throughout the world! π π¦βοΈ

Did you know that Australians use about 10 million plastic straws a day?
Use this image to prompt a discussion about the lifecycle of plastics. Discuss ways we can reduce plastic use to protect #lifebelowwater.

I love this idea!
Encourage your students to use reusable water bottles by:
- Educating them about plastic sustainability and the impact plastic has on #lifebelowwater.
- Designating an area in your classroom for reusable water bottles.
#UonTeach#SDG14#educ4750
Did you know that over 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute around the world? (Take3 2018)
This is a great way to promote using reusable water bottles in the classroom! Convenient but effective initiative to becoming a sustainable classroom. #UoNteach#Educ4750
Community-based learning is a valuable pedagogical approach to teaching the #SDGs. It increases engagement, shows significance, and creates a sense of community and civic agency (Melaville, 2006).
