As of 2022, the top five African countries indebted to the World Bank — Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania — accounted for 46% of the continent's outstanding debt with the institution.

@RichardGowan1 I totally appreciate the response, but I personally saw the article as being focused on option A, not option B - and as long as that’s the goal, I don’t think the PR efforts have much chance of succeeding. The “global south” sees right through it.
No offense intended to @RichardGowan1 - but the nations of the Global South actually HAVE their own narratives about rights and values. How about finally recognizing that? I think it might help.
Can European countries construct a narrative about rights and values in multilateral institutions to win over the "Global South"?
A new piece from me @ecfr: https://t.co/cMmxr4E7tu
@RichardGowan1 “How can we create a narrative using some of their own talking points to get them to do what we want on Ukraine?”
vs
“How do we reshape global institutions to be genuinely inclusive and force serious action on the multiple existential crises Western economies have created?”
The longevity of Susan Rice has never ceased to amaze me. Given her abrasiveness and her poor political and humanitarian instincts - starting with the Rwandan genocide and culminating in US immigration policy - she’s true Teflon. I’d bet she’ll be back. 😞 https://t.co/SSegULx93k
Ethiopia is right to support Sudanese people to overcome their current challenge. This is’t time to attempt a take-back of the contested Fashaga border area. Brothers don’t attack brothers when their house is on fire. PM is right to refer Sudan’s land grab to the Border comission
@solomonseyoum@afitz3105 Thank you. I send my most sincere gratitude to everyone who has spoken up against the false TPLF slander campaigns. So many people have faced this over the decades, but few have been privileged with the support that Ann and I have received. 🙏 I’m truly grateful. @RSonderriis
@PatrickWight1@RSonderriis@afitz3105 What dots???
I have nothing to do with ML, or Wilfred Laurier, or with any of their listed donors… or with Canada. Ann and I are like-minded scholars who co-authored a paper.
What you’re doing is conspiracy theory and disinfo campaigning. You should be ashamed of yourself.
@PatrickWight1@RSonderriis@afitz3105 This is an unsubstantiated slander that names me without providing any explanation or supporting evidence whatsoever. Published by Sahan, a notorious private security company/“information” operation.
This is your idea of a reliable source? Well that explains some things. 😂
@PatrickWight1@RSonderriis@afitz3105 You’ve called me a mercenary and a lobbyist in dozens of tweets. Both are harmful & defamatory accusations that I could easily formalize in a complaint to YOUR university.
You should be grateful (and ashamed) because Ann and I don’t stoop to your tactics.
@TomGardner18@MLInstitute And just curious - when your pals at @NYT posted photos of child soldiers and called them willing recruits, did you complain about him mischaracterizing child victims of war crimes? What about the humiliating photos of prisoners of war that NYT posted? Were you silent then too?
@TomGardner18@MLInstitute Are you alleging @MLInstitute (in Canada) was involved in the revocation of your journalist’s license (in Ethiopia)?
And it’s somehow “safer” for you to just start a false rumor on Twitter, without fact checking first?
And you mobilized a campaign of “others,” too? 🙄🙄🙄
Ann’s research so rattled the TPLF that she continues to be harassed by their goon squad, inc. a bomb threat to her university. Ann herself decided pull the article: After a year & plenty of corroborative reporting by @reuters etc., she’s more interested in protecting her family.
Belatedly, @MLInstitute has removed this "research" on Tigrayan "grassroots opinion". No word of an explanation. Did the work pass ethics review protocols for research with vulnerable human subjects?
I wonder.

@TiborPNagyJr While you were enjoying your drive, tens of thousands of political prisoners were being tortured in secret jails. The illusion of harmony was bought with their blood — and ended in nationwide uprising.
Stability and oppression are not the same thing.
US Africa summit should be held in Ethiopia. The AU headquarters. We can't have 55 African leaders travel with bloated expenses to visit one person in the US to discuss Africa problems in North America.
