Sustainable change towards #genderequity requires affirming women’s contributions in a way that is tangible, not tokenistic.
I'm so honoured to have worked with incredible young women in global health to publish this comment in @TheLancet.

So humbled to have worked on this article and to have been able to witness and amplify the voices of women living with #HIV who experience food insecurity in Vancouver. If you want the full article, feel free to DM me
Truth is, if Canada decriminalized #SexWork today, #Migrant#SexWorkers would still be criminalized under the #Immigration prohibitions. Predators act w/ impunity b/c they know women fear their own arrest & deportation & won't report #VAW.

We are grieving the 8 people murdered in Atlanta. They died because of unjust, racist and whorephobic laws. In their honour we raise #8CallsforJustice.

Instead of more policing to "keep ‘us’ safe", let's invest in community alternatives. Let's support sex workers w/ words, policies, and $. And let's name this for what these violent experiences are all symptoms of—white supremacy, misogyny, and classism. https://t.co/TF7t5L7lcr
@PaulTaylorTO Thank you for speaking on this critical labour and human rights issue, @paultaylorTO. We've provided some context for the need for the House of Commons petition and urgent decriminalization of sex work in our op-ed today:

"COVID-19 has revealed that sex workers aren’t vulnerable due to the nature of their work: they’re MADE vulnerable through criminalization & structural exclusion."

@CityofAtlanta@KeishaBottoms We sincerely hope that this will be a wake up call for elected officials to fully #decriminalize#sexwork, repeal racist immigration policies and recognize that those policies and stigma facilitate violence and send a message to aggressors that sex workers are good targets.
SWAN joins Asian Canadian Women's Alliance, @ccncto & @ButterflyCSW to speak further to the community statement released w/ other ngos yesterday: https://t.co/kcdj17pDBV

If we're talking about a mass shooting in a massage parlor, we better be talking about whorephobia. The hatred and fear of sex workers fuel attacks like this, especially the hatred of migrant sex workers. Sad sad day for our community.
We must not erase the fact that the Asian women tragically killed in Atlanta hours earlier were massage parlor workers, and we as Chinatown organizers stand in full solidarity with those who have been long targeted by violence against the industrry
These deaths somehow mean more because of the rise in anti-Asian violence related to COVID-19, but no mention of how they’re connected to the long policing of Asian sex work, which so many Asian Americans and those speaking up against anti-Asian hate endorse.
Eight workers in massage parlors have been killed in Atlanta. This is horrific, and is indicative of the violence that massage workers face daily. We are saddened and angered to learn of this, and we are sending our love to the workers in Atlanta.
