@Oilfield_Rando A lot of it has to do with maintaining 2 places to live and flying between them nearly every week. It’s hard to pay for essentially 2 mortgages and travel.
@WesleyHoratio I had a highschool English teacher take points off on a paper for referencing Soma from Brave New World — she had no idea what word I was using and thought I made it up.
We had read it for the previous English class.
@roikfbuwgc254 Look up “Thousand Island” sauce! Many American sauces used for fried chicken are made using “Thousand Island” as a base and then changing it based on what you like. I imagine it would go well with kaarage
@harukaawake I love the Japanese brand “Hatachino Nest” and also Asahi’s Super Dry beer! The Japanese beers are great: I like Sapporo and Kirin Ichiban too, but I prefer Asahi
@i_am_potetoman I ate at Ichiran many times when I went to Japan. Their ramen is amazing! I hope to try many regional styles of ramen when I go back to Japan.
I want to try true Okonomiyaki as well. And I have always wanted to try Yoshinoya gyudon!
@rc51_nono_sp2 We also hold on to older English words others don’t use much anymore, though it is going out of fashion now:
Yonder (indeterminate amount of distance in the direction indicated)
Reckon
Folk
Kin (related to)
Holler (to call and as land feature)
Poke (instead of a bag)
@hotcake_kun_ Right after you made your first post, I heard about Lone Star Smokehouse in Yokohama. I plan on trying Lone Star when I go to Japan again. If any other nation can barbecue like us, I trust Japan to do it. Y’all can master anything. I have also wondered how Wagyu would do smoked.
@peacockwolfs@DeseretStone That would be a very generous gift, and totally unnecessary. However, it would likely be taken as you bringing your own ammo to shoot, and would be be shot that day instead of saved.
@i_kaseki But meat is the centerpiece of the meal. The main event. I always thought it was more than just normal, but the most important part of a meal. Is that just an American perspective? Sometimes I only eat the meat, especially when it’s barbecue.
@SeanKy_ Well, I would argue that the South is the heartland, but that’s likely just because I’m from the South!! I am just happy to see our culture known of and respected by a culture I also respect and enjoy.
