21 years ago After Life aired and this scene with Buffy and Spike is still so extraordinary.
The way so much emotion and visceral connection between them is conveyed in just a couple of minutes is breathtaking
This is such an extraordinary scene. The subtle way that Buffy instinctively steps closer and leans into Spike to convey how important what she's asking really is.
The fact that she went to soulless Spike to protect the two most important people in her life is breathtaking
There is no narrative handwaving that would have ever made Buffy believe she could leave her mom or sister with a chipped Angelus.
Buffy trusted Spike a hell of a lot longer than she realized.
The way that Buffy's first instinct is to turn to Spike to protect the most important people in her life. She says that he's "the only one strong enough" to.
She literally moves closer to him to convey how important this is for her. This shows how deeply she trusts him already
The amount of trust and belief that Buffy had in Spike to agree to remove his chip was truly extraordinary.
She says it was pure "instinct" on her part and "evil" and "wrong" to force that on him
@SpuffyFields I could write an entire essay on why As You Were was horrendous but of all the awful things in that episode, I still can't believe that Riley sat in Buffy's living room, on that couch, and never once asked about Joyce. Even Amy told Buffy how sorry she was about Joyce.
It's no exaggeration to say that Sarah and James have absolutely changed my life ever since Buffy premiered.
Given the incredible reaction to these amazing photos, it's clear how much of a truly lifelong impact they've had on everyone else as well
@drhorrorphd@slayerxvampire Earlier in After Life, when Buffy seeks Spike out in his crypt, they have a similar misunderstanding. Spike thinks Buffy came to blame him for not saving her but she came because she realizes that he's the only one who can begin to understand her.

One of the things I love about this is Spike's speech starts because he thinks Buffy's there to blame him for not saving her. He's wracked with guilt. But Buffy came to him because he's the only one who didn't expect anything from her, let her have the peaceful quiet of Heaven.
We need to talk about this scene and what a huge consent violation it is.
Buffy explicitly told Xander she did not want him telling Dawn about what happened, yet the first chance he gets, he tells her anyway. He heard Dawn had one remaining safe place and took that away from her
