My wee Tosh cat died today after being in an accident.
She was twenty years old and had been my companion since I was a toddler. She’s the prettiest cat that ever was.
Please keep her, and all of us who loved her, in your prayers.
Last week’s read.
The Desert Fathers remind us that the deepest battles are rarely “out there.” They are fought in the hidden places of the heart, where silence strips away illusion and grace slowly teaches us how to become fully human.

Tosh cat update: doing a lot of sleeping, in the most awkward positions imaginable (as is tradition), and insisting on exploring the muckiest fields she can find.
She’s content.
Happy feast of St. Ignatius.
How Jeremiah felt, and how Ignatius felt, is how my own heart feels:
“I say I will not mention him,
I will no longer speak in his name.
But then it is as if fire is burning in my heart,
imprisoned in my bones;
I grow weary holding back.
I cannot.”
Watching the reaction to Fr. @JamesMartinSJ has been a reminder of how easily we in the Church end up arguing with the version of someone we have imagined, rather than the words they have actually spoken.
Whatever anyone makes of @JamesMartinSJ, intellectual honesty and Christian charity require us to represent one another fairly before we criticise.
May God grant us the humility to listen well, the charity to speak truthfully, and the grace to seek understanding before outrage.
Praying this Sunday for Berlin, where hatred has brought grief to a city that should have been celebrating, and for the Cairngorms, where fire has swept through God’s creation.
May God grant comfort to the grieving, protection to the vulnerable, and peace to all who are afraid.
