When I run for political office, I promise to do these things:

Tell the truth -- as a philosopher that is really important

Not make a big stink that the other guy is defective -- but instead promulgate my own plan for making things better

Change my mind whenever I realize that there is a better solution to whatever I was promulgating

Sincerely and openly apologize when I blow it

Give credit to others who come up with great ideas -- even people whom I might be running against

Try my absolute best to follow my adage: "Do the right thing even when it hurts"

Are people tipping too much? Or just not always in the right places? Here is something you might not have thought of.

I think many of us have shared frustration over so many asking for tips for routine operations like checking out clothes from a retail store, etc.

But, from the other direction, consider tipping for good service stewards and stewardesses on airplane flights?

I just flew on a six hour flight and the service was excellent so I showed my appreciation with a tip.

My view is that this is just reinforcing the logic of tipping in the first place i.e. a reward for service that is above what is expected.

The stewardess who received my tip had a big smile and clearly felt great about it. And so did I

Meanwhile, I note that Alaska Airlines is doing a great job.

I (finally) figured out tariffs -- an epiphany -- and so easy to understand -- I can explain it in just a few sentences.

You know when you have a local hardware store and Home Depot comes in. Do you want to get it cheaper at Home Depot or support the local hardware store?

Tariffs are the exact same thing. Do you want to get it cheaper from China or Vietnam or support American companies that, yes, will cost more to manufacture.

Is this good or bad? Well that is for you to decide, just like you do when you decide which store you want to go to for that Phillips head screwdriver.

Here is how the crypto craze will end in my view

It is always the same thing. At the beginning of an investing craze numerous companies are formed and prices run amok

Sooner or later virtually all of them die off by going bankrupt, or are bought for peanuts by other companies.

This typically leaves one or maybe two survivors

Note that the Internet stock boom left one survivor, which was Amazon.

My prediction is that the crypto craze will leave one survivor, which is bitcoin, and perhaps one more.

That is my prediction of the future, which, of course, is just a prediction…

I have two friends who are both -- genius level brilliant, creative, loving to the nth degree, and I treasure deeply. Under any assessment, these are two of the "best" people I have in my life.

When I have trouble or difficulty they are who I turn to.

One loves Trump as the greatest president ever and embraces the right.

The other hates Trump and embraces the left.
