@matthewstoller@dieworkwear Both. Matt I get the argument that eg @izakaminska and you are making re American Mittelstand, and assume even Derek likes the idea of it, but that’s not the way to get there.
@mmjukic@live_munro There’s a bit of highly specialized US Mittelstand (James Webb Telescope components come to mind), but a decent majority of the world’s physical innovation still runs on EU/Japanese gear.
@mmjukic Think @live_munro did a walkthrough of the Cybertruck production line, and from Italian Gigapresses to German laser cutting / welding, it’s almost exclusively European and Japanese equipment.
🚨 Hey folks I got something to announce:
I am launching a new investment fund brand:
Prototype Capital 🦾
A globally-active first-check investment fund.
We focus on cool stuff that's technical hard to achieve, but also still new enough to be a bit weird – globally.
Think Robotics in Eastern Europe, AI in SF, Software remotely, OpenSource SaaS, Space-tech in India, Reindustrialization of Europe, AI Agents in Brazil, among many others…
- $100k-$200k
- we say we invest early and we actually mean it
- with every 5th investment we are the first to commit
- only 6% of all ivnestments were after seed
- the brand will be a larger umbrella for all kinds of stuff from our own prototypes 😬, to streams, to communities, to investinpublic transparency efforts
- this is legally speaking a rebrand of my previous solo GP fund so we got track record to proof
- we do about 15-20 investments per year
Link in thread! 🔥
Please RT if you got a sec – Appreciate your launch support 🙏❤️
@doctorow@johnhiggs They… grabbed the ring of power, but are trapped in the postmodern post-truth world, the one place they will never find the certainty and strength they seek. They are like Brer Rabbit and the tar baby. The more they attack, the more stuck they become. They aren’t going anywhere.
@dsquareddigest As far as I understand that’s most of them for now, Rigetti or D-Wave are the two annealing ones that come to mind? Or literally on existing CPUs?
@andreasklinger Same with the Cybertruck factories: peel off the Tesla logos on the machines and it’s basically a warehouse wrapped around Europe’s finest, like Trumpf again, IDRA (Italy), AP&T (Sweden), Kuka (Germany) and so on.

@andreasklinger Not sure asking guys like Andreessen to back up “facts” is a good way to spend one’s time…
Someone tweeted recently that OpenAI is a wrapper around NVIDIA, which is a wrapper around TSMC, which is a wrapper around ASML, which is a wrapper around Trumpf & Zeiss.
@andreasklinger Sure, market caps are in the US, but a lot of the R&D that those companies depend on still quietly happens in Europe. Trumpf (family owned) and Zeiss (purpose trust foundation) would easily be $100B+ companies in the US.
@jonostrower@TailwindAir Always wonder who clears them of boats - it’s a SFRA above the East River, but is it circle to land, the FBO giving them an indication, or does LGA have insight into small boat traffic?
