Apple's Tim Cook says tells Fox News Sunday that Parler can come back “If they get their moderation together." They need to hire hundreds of #trustandsafety pros. .. in addition to the hundreds of employees needed to scale its infrastructure as @davetroy notes.
There's also an issue of scale: can this rule be applied to all accounts? Is it specific only to those who have disproportionate reach/influence? Is disproportionate influence scalable/controllable?
Again, asking privately owned companies to determine what is good/not good for people to see--and disabling/banning activity--is an unprecedented and complicated move: https://t.co/Hl7Haj4BXO
My second issue with indefinitely disabling a political figure's social media account is policy and precedent: establishing a policy that addresses "threats to democracy" opens a WIDE window for silencing of non-democratic voices and opinions.
@CT_Running_Dad well well look who it is! I'm not super active on Twitter but I'm more active as @Leftsider. Stay here if you want occasional comments on privacy and online safety!
1. In-house moderators gives better benefits to critical workers but may expose the company to greater risk and responsibility.
2. Wondering the pay increase an experienced moderator gets over a new mod
3. Pros/cons to recycling mods around the tech circuit vs expanding pool
I'd love to see an editorial from someone with legal and T&S experience that discussed the risks to managing the account of a formerly elected official. The person would have less protections in their usage but still may need to remain unbannable to preserve historical record
@LendUpCredit@BabylonHealthUS@Facebook I think that providing both freedom to create and safety for communities is THE question of the internet today. I hope to talk about risk, privacy, localization and other points from this account
(once I remember my password 😅 luckily I still have tweetdeck!)
@LendUpCredit@BabylonHealthUS This year, I've joined @Facebook. I want to use my experience in risk and social media to support the reduction of harm on one of the worlds biggest platforms. Every day my work is inspired by the online communities I once served with this account.
