It feels disingenuous to wish you a *Happy* Conflict Resolution Day today. Instead, I hope you have a productive day managing & resolving any arguments, conflicts, disputes & disagreements that are making your life difficult.
I'm so excited for @waterbarnes' Virginia Tech visit this week!!! If you're on campus: consider attending her seminar, "Rethinking the Scientific Enterprise to Make it More Welcoming & Just", on Fri at 2:30p in the Fralin Auditorium.
(Thanks @jp_gannon & @vt_cnre for hosting!)
Desperate call for help. I lost a treasure today at the @virginia_tech#McComas gym. In the 12 years I've worn my wedding band, I can count the # of times I took it off. I did so today during a lunchtime workout. Please DM if you #found a white gold ring w/botanic engraving.
@CGMundell Thank you, I was impressed with the thoughtful engagement throughout the conversation. Kudos to you and your community for taking this conversation to the next level.
The College of Science’s Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice is hosting a virtual speaker series addressing #academicbullying. Join our first event at 11:30 am on March 1st featuring @BryanjHanson

My colleague @OmbudsR and I had the opportunity to talk with our local radio station about the work we do as Ombuds for Virginia Tech. Thanks to @WUVTFM for the opportunity. If you ever wondered what the work of an ombuds entails, have a listen: https://t.co/yXT6fbcCXJ
Ombuds and aspiring ombuds, I saw this opportunity on Tom's @Ombudsblog and want to encourage you to apply. Southwest Virginia is a wonderful place to live and work and this is a strong institution of Higher Ed in the region. https://t.co/Lw9aW25eLj
Happy Ombuds day to all my friends and colleagues providing a supportive resource to help their constituents reframe their perspective of conflict and constructively work through the conflict situations they are experiencing.
Have you wondered how one becomes an ombuds? The @IntlOmbudsAssoc has a new series to help show the various pathways one may take called the Ombuds Journey. The latest post by Kristine Paranica, Ombuds at the University of North Dakota, is a great read: https://t.co/PY1taD9nm9
Academic bullying is a complex issue with no clear pathway for constructive engagement. Normalizing the conversations around this behavior is a great place to start. I am excited about this opportunity to partner with @academicimpress to begin this effort: https://t.co/05DrvFgcx4
So how does one become an ombuds? To all my ombuds colleagues out there, we would love to hear your journey. The @IntlOmbudsAssoc is developing a series of blog posts to highlight the unique paths one may take to find success in this role. Learn more here: https://t.co/8TWBTCFotH
@VT_ORDI Thanks Shernita! It was a pleasure to have this conversation. While there is a greater recognition of the psychological impact of these behaviors, establishing constructive means to respond to these experiences requires more work to normalize the difficult conversations required.
With #Ombudsday 2020 coming up on October 8th. Michael Green put together a playlist to get us in the right mindset. Check out his post on the @IntlOmbudsAssoc blog to link and listen: https://t.co/wEOmxTGqIZ
I appreciated the latest IOA Independent Voice blog post by Ryan Smith. He encourages us to #rethinkconflict and to consider the use of restorative practices in our work as ombuds. https://t.co/4qXWn1uced
