Why sales tax compliance?

Well, global transactions taxes (aka indirect taxes as the tax pros call it) are a much bigger problem space than most realize.

Before the internet, sales tax was a Fortune 500 problem. Walmart has a sales presence in damn near every jurisdiction in the world.

Post-internet, we have e-commerce, marketplaces, SaaS, remote work, AI, etc. Every company by default sells across multiple states and/or countries.

Regulatory changes in the US and abroad have made collecting and remitting sales tax, VAT, and GST a problem for virtually any company with material sales in more than one tax jurisdiction, with or without a physical presence.

Our goal is to solve indirect tax compliance globally - for every jurisdiction, product, tax filing, and edge case. From initial compliance all the way to defending audits from the gov.

It's a big, complex problem space. We're just getting started and have much work to do.

Key sign of health is when you simply enjoy people by default. You're supposed to embrace the spontaneous conversation with a stranger. You're supposed to see a random person smile and feel an immediate warmth

You're not supposed to be so easily frustrated or annoyed by others minding their own business. You're not supposed to walk around with judgmental thoughts festering in your head

Impossible to claim you're full of vitality when it's easier for normal life to ruin your day than make it. You can put up a certain image on the outside but it's the junk on the inside that will silently takes years off your life

@cszhu Had a course called Computational Problem Solving which was based in Mathematica (similar to Jupyter). It was a project based course that allowed for flexibility to solving problems with code.

Taught both basic backend data structures + frontend UI design and implementation.
