Kiss the badge, fight for the shirt, talk about your love for the club and being at home. Then a better opportunity comes with more money, and all of that stops existing. And we’d all do the same in his position.

I think I actually learned this during the Ashley era. When everything about the club felt broken, you realised what football actually is.

It’s funny seeing a Manchester United fan calling Newcastle United a “mid team.” But if you ask why United themselves aren’t playing in the UEFA Champions League, suddenly the explanations get very complicated.

Meanwhile, United hasn’t won at St James' Park in seven years.

Chelsea FC have also struggled there for years. Yet FC Barcelona went there within months and remained unbeaten and suddenly the usual Premier League narratives start again.

Then Liverpool FC lose to Galatasaray SK and the timeline goes completely silent.
