@StengelIsabelle The short-term increase in usage of Bing's mapping service was directly related to Jay-Z's ads. Although it likely gave Bing a higher visibility as a search engine, I doubt that an auxiliary service of Bing influenced many to switch to the main service.

@gabriieeelllee Consistent ads are more effective in showing credibility. Long running cycles of the Farmers song, the Geico Gecko, and Progressive's Flo all are the most likely to come into mind when I think of an insurance firm's long standing credibility.

Today we saw examples of strategies that ads use to persuade audience's attitudes to reinforce or change behavior. How will consumer behaviors start to change as less people continue to watch TV and switch to streaming services where ads are less prevalent?

@cjoutras It is impossible for FB to be able to filter fake news or content as even an algorithm can make mistakes. Because of how many people are on FB every day making content (1 billion), consumers of news must learn to filter through content themselves. #UWJ201 @ATveleneva
@SammieJ90967857 In between a diverse mix of clubs, family, classes, and friends, I have a dense network, being involved a lot of extracurricular activities. I not only experience more, but am exposed to a variety of attitudes and opinions which make me more lean moderate.

One of the charts shown in lecture today showed how mobile devices drive online traffic but we may end up less informed by exclusively using mobile devices. Do you think that the convenience of smartphones makes up for this difference in understanding?

In a time where social media and the internet allows citizens to become more aware about issues within our society and make more informed decisions, do you think that journalism will continue to focus on the elites in society? #UWJ201 @ATveleneva
@jesskatz9 Similarly, there is very little positive news coverage of public companies and corporations. Negative news coverage is definitely not exclusive to politics. #UWJ201 @ATveleneva
@CownieClara Being that there is much more negative news coverage than positive or neutral, the public may believe that journalists take sides and are biased in attacking the other candidate. #UWJ201 @ATveleneva
@kisting_p If I already know the person that I'm talking to has an opinion that conflicts mine, I notice that I often try to convince the other person to uphold my viewpoint by responding more aggressively. Also, I tend to hold longer conversations with these people.
#UWJ201 @ATveleneva
@taraodonnellm As it becomes less comfortable for people to talk about their opinions even in their close circles, conversation about politics may eventually become mostly confined to the press, internal politics, and social media only. To me this is concerning.

Today, David Maraniss mentioned in response to a question about critiques that he does not look at or respond to comments in the comment section below his articles. Why is it that the comment section tends to contain the most deviant and cynical responses?

@afontaine4504 With infinitely more information being presented to us in this digital age, it will be impossible not to be affected at least in some way. The best approach we can do is to embrace a diversity of thought and be cultivated with a positive impact. #UWJ201 @ATveleneva
@mnewms2 Face-to-face communication will continue to dissipate in the coming generations. However, just think how useful a smartphone is for more homogeneous societies. Smartphones allow eye-opening conversations with people with diverse backgrounds and cultures. #UWJ201 @ATveleneva
"I see ads for things that I dream about." Often targeted ads are creepily akin to people's interests and recent activities. How far is too far for algorithms that personalize social media and suggested content?
