@GoalFrom39@ADiMarco25 Over the last couple years that team has some of the worst D metrics in the league, Luke Hughes is borderline unplayable at the NHL level and they spent most of last season trying to unload Hamilton, siegenthaler and pesce are older Average D with injury concerns.
@fhr3823@ADiMarco25 Philly picked 5, 7, 13, and then 6, does that not constitute a tank? Does it not count because two of players they got could be 90 plus point stars but neither guy takes faceoffs. What in your mind counts as a proper tank
@fhr3823@ADiMarco25 My feelings are irrelevant, you’re just not correct. Car, TB, VGK, STL, WSH, 6 of the last 10 cups were won by teams that did not tear down and tank for many seasons in order to win. Some drafted high yes, but only 2 or 3 times, exactly what flyers just did.
@philly_colector Buddy, Larkin was 21 when Det started their rebuild in 17’. They already had a 21 yr old #1 C, which I hear is the hardest piece to acquire. What you don’t seem to grasp is that it’s statistically more likely to never climb back to true contention once your team is that bad.
@philly_colector@ADiMarco25 Sure. They had 7 consecutive yrs of top 10 picks. 3 of which were 6oa or better. They absolutely tried to tear it down. They even got some great players out of it. But they are a great ex of how a tank usually goes. It’s really hard to put it back together once you tear it down.
@DucksDaily93 What! no way?! I was told this kid was a real straight shooter who just didn’t want to play for a crappy org in phillly, not an entitled baby at all.
@broadburnt@AdamN916@PSE4133 Mon TB Car Buf VGK Dal Min Wsh are all cup contenders this year who acquired their top Center via trade or later in the draft. I’m not going to fry the FO because they have decided to use assets & cap space to call their shots rather than rely on bouncing of some ping pong balls
@AdamN916@PSE4133 In the last 10 drafts there was only a 25% chance a bottom 5 team drafted a franchise changing C or D. In a tank you are significantly more likely to purposely make your team worse and still never land that franchise player. That’s not a wining strategy either, it’s dumb luck.
@BeeTEE15 He wanted to join team in April of 23’ which would have burned an ELC yr. Briere told him to wait until the following training camp. He then decided to go back to BC for sophomore yr. If he played entire D+2 yr in NHL & not at BC, he would be offer sheet eligible this summer.
@Ywolok@JimIkeHW@NHLRumourReport Outside of goals scored they were indeed better in every raw and analytical category. The ducks have a average-weak roster propped up by 4 or 5 star players. The Flyers lack true star power but top to bottom this is one of the deepest rosters in hockey.
@glimmerinplay@JoeViller@s__carson In the last 10 drafts there have been about 13 franchise altering Centers or D drafted in the top 5 picks. 13 out of 50. Strip down and be god awful for half a decade plus for a 25% chance at drafting a superstar isn’t always the best strategy either. It’s just luck.
@s__carson the flyers draft position was already locked in when Briere took the job in may of 23’. Since the following draft the only franchise altering C & D have been celebrini & schaefer. Even if he sold vets & “tanked” there was about a 12% chance of getting either of those guys.
@goalfarabee86@JHallNBCS Teams typically burn through way more than 7 firsts in order to find 3 franchise cornerstones. About 50% of 1st rounders even play 200 games, let alone go on to become franchise pieces.
@broadburnt And losing out on Carlsson doesn’t condemn this FO either. The big piece add doesn’t have to happen this summer. They currently have a very solid foundation in place. It took Carolina 8 yrs of making the playoffs and adjusting the roster to finally get over hump.
@glimmerinplay@1975Flyordie@jje9889@PhillySquidward Wahh I wanted them to bottom out and do it “right” like NJ, CHI, Arizona/Utah, ANA, VAN, CGY, OTT, TOR, all franchises that are the pinnacle of success. & Det absolutely tore it down. 4 of 6 yrs they finished bot 5, and the other 2 yrs they finished 25 & 27. Great points tho
@MaherMediaCo Why in the world would you post this when this lineup is not cap compliant. If Leo lands other pieces will have to be moved. Do 3 minutes of homework and try to operate in reality. They would likely have to clear 6.2-10 mill off the current books.
@charlieo_conn I wonder how this affects the drysdale negotiations. Drysdale has been a better player than Mintyukov, a 6.25 aav now looks like a good deal if they can get it done.
