my personal experience with doing dangerous things alone is that the number of people who go out of their way to exploit my vulnerability are just about exactly balanced by the number who go out of their way to defend it. chivalry is very much alive in certain niches
I relate with this a lot. I do SO many activities on my own, have lived in a state with no family near me on my own for five years before, traveled overseas alone, road trip alone, go to concerts alone, ALL as a woman.
When I suggest activities like this to other women, there are some who are overly concerned with safety as if normal precautions are not enough because you are a woman. I reject this, I have never felt unsafe in some situation where a man wouldn't also feel unsafe. Be smart, don't put yourself in risky situations, and you will be fine I promise.
In fact, I think women tend to be less safe when doing all these things with a man "for protection" because men tend to be more overly confident and get themselves into risky situations that you will be dragged into.
it's like 90% of people are normal but there're 5% on each end who will be very threatening / very helpful specifically bc i'm a small woman traveling alone
