so much of what passes as political pragmatism is just a commitment to cementing the limits of the current system as the limits of your own imagination. “realism” is a flattering way to explain away a deep psychological attachment to the status quo
Hate how non-black people treat the BLM era like it was some kind of funny joke
It’s “oh haha woke 1 was crazy” for you, meanwhile Ferguson activists were systemically silenced by the US government for simply trying to protest against police brutality 😐
Defunding the police is not some radical demand that people should be walking back to ""show they're serious now."" Corporations and the police have literally built up a nation-wide surveillance apparatus that they've activated to arrest people for pre-crime.
Marxist/socialists today really have lost the sense for insurrection and its necessary relation to revolution. Everything is kind of just fodder for org building, for getting people to join in and do “the real work”. Socialist as one series of steps until some goal is reached.
“2020 didn’t really add up to anything” says person who has lived under six year counter-revolution against that moment that still shakes and confounds even the furthest left imaginations of mainstream politics
so these geniuses first public interview (while being accused of murdering a black boy) is with a black man who is known for saying shit like the Black Wall Street massacre was black people's fault.
they did that shit. unquestionably.
It's pretty wild that the big politics twitter discussion right now is "did police reform go Too Far" and then the actually existing police reforms are like "they have a camera now that they can just turn off before they shoot you".
For AOC “woke 1” was her crying outside an immigrant detention center and then proceeding to endorse anti immigrant/pro ICE politicians in her own party.
i think most libs do think that extrajudicial police killings are bad, but they also think cops are a societal necessity and that the danger caused by not having them is even worse than having them. they fear their neighbors, they fear their community, and fear paralyzes
There was no woke 1 or woke 2 It was just a bunch of opportunistic conservatives that twisted language from the Black community into a political bludgeon for themselves while liberals lamented on how it made them feel icky for having to think about race and their actions.
Every now and then, a certain section of leftists make it clear that they see issues that disproportionately affect black people as distractions that people only care about under guilt or psychosis, because those issues are distractions from the serious topics.
They use the elections of figures like El-Sayed & Mamdani to claim “a socialist urgency is popping off”- when these people are campaigning w/ Kamala Harris, proudly proclaiming to be capitalist, and explicitly stating their goal is to rehabilitate the CAPITALIST democratic party.
it's funny (not really) that you can apply this to any non black community like non black latinos, east asians, eastern europeans... the whole world is disgustingly anti black
Conservatives co-opted a term referencing Black consciousness and used it to denigrate pro-Black and progressive politics and liberals followed suit by referring to a decade of pro-Black and progressive politics as “woke(derogatory)” to bond with confederates. Where’s the humor?
Yep, hate for Dunst’s MJ is a red flag in the same way that hate for Skyler White is a red flag.
Peter and MJ are both, in the grand tradition of comic book couples, really messy people who love for drama. And that’s great!
